Ballie
Guys, after much deliberation and lots of help and advise from this and bbs forum I have rid myself of my .243 Tikka T3 lite and replaced it with a new .243 Sako 75 Varmint Laminate Stainless and I thought I would post a photo of the rifle and the groups it shoots. I was told that a Sako would shoot very well out of the box and indeed it does, with a bit of playing around with powder load and seating depth I have got my new rifle shooting a 4 bullet group on a £1 coin at 200 yards (with a slight wind) the load I have settled on is 70g Nosler BT, 41g Varget, Federal 210M, Lapua brass set 55 thou off the lands. My first impressions of the Sako are that it is very well built, it goes without saying that for a factory rifle I am very pleased with the groups it shoots the only thing I am not keen on is the trigger but there must be some good after market triggers for Sako 75’s so this is something that can be sorted, also I am not to keen on the opti lock mounts as I can’t see anyway of getting them central to the barrel but I have yet to find any decent manufacturers that do a scope mount to fit a Sako tapered action. Dead-Eyed Duck
Can't be much wrong with the trigger if you are shooting that kind of group. I have a Sako 75 - silly question but have you tried adjusting the trigger? Don

I have a Sako 75 - silly question but have you tried adjusting the trigger? Don I see what you mean LOL but I prefer a trigger that you can feel a bit of movement before it releases (like a two stage) this trigger is a bit heavy (yes I have adjusted it down) but as you rightly say it shoots ok. v-max
Well done good group's & a trigger is a personal thing & some thing you must like or get on with on your rifle.Just out of interest why try at 200yrd's or did you zero at 100yrd then stuck it out to 200.Just curious on this & your thought's/reason's why. I have only had the rifle just over a week (fired 40 rounds) and as yet I have not shoot it at anything other than 200 yards, the reason I done all my loads testing at 200yds is because thats the distance I shoot most of my foxes at. I just thought its easy to shoot a good group at 100yds but its harder to shoot well at 200yds my feeling is if I can find a load that shoots well at 200yds then it will probably one whole at a 100yds. If we get a wind free day this week I will shoot it at 100, 150, 200, 250 and 300 yards (2 bullets at each distance) all shots will be fired at the same target, that will then give me the best range to zero at (which I think will be about 200) from this I will also make a drop chart which will be wrote on tape stuck to my stock. chrisv
Ballie, I wouldn't be in a hurry to dump the Sako mounts, I have always thought they were very good quality. Fister has the same rifle as you, and he can set his up dead central in minutes, you need a collimator to do it though. Try PMing him and he'll tell you how to do it. Be patient though, he's having a nightmare with his broadband at the moment, so may not reply quickly. Chris
Wookie
It's a bit sad to hear of you getting shot of your Tikka, but that's a lovely bit of kit you picked up to replace it! Lovely groups too!
Ballie
Thanks Fister, I will try this with the mounts as soon as I can. Although I love the rifle I am still unhappy with the trigger, I have adjusted it down as far as I think you should but its still quite heavy, also I like a trigger that has a bit of movement but this trigger has no movement its just a case of put the pressure on then BANG! I thought Jackson Rifles were going to do one but they told me today that they have not got round to it yet because they are busy developing yet another Remington trigger!!! I tried to point out to them (politely) that Remington owners have loads of triggers to choose from, yet there are thousands of us poor old Sako owns that don’t have any after market triggers to choose from, so please could they get on and do one!!! If anyone knows of an after market trigger for a Sako 75 please let me know. Administrators I have stopped getting email notifications when someone posts, I have checked all my settings and I am all set up to get them but I am not, any ideas? No what you mean, after reading your post i had a look thinking i had missed something from jackson's but obviously i see i didn't. It would be nice in the near future to maybe put a custom trigger in, that is a tad lighter and smoother than the factory Sako.ie: a 2 stage. But apart from that i have no complaints. Incedently you mention the Sako mounts, is there much difference to the Optilocks i have on mine, i read about getting them central, have i missed something, or not done things the correct way

Fister’s idea of centralizing the windage and then adjusting the front base is very good advise and I will be following his instructions. With regards to trigger could I suggest that everyone who reads this phones Jackson rifles 01644 470223 and asks them when they are going to develop the Sako two stage trigger the more of us that phone the quicker they will do it because they will realise that there is demand. Dougy
Just rang Jackson's, "March next year" have a bit of a wait then dont we
deadeye ive
I have optilocks and unless I've missed something I can't see how they can be used to adjust windage by being moved up and down the rail (Dovetail) that is unless the rail on my tikka is slightly tapered on one side . Now my millet mounts have a clamping screw on both sides of the mount and they can be used to adjust windage . I'm all ears on this one
chrisv
Ive, The rings are the same, but the bases on my T3 don't fit Sakos. The Sako ones move left and right as they slide fore and aft.
