.410 resizing & priming tools

Recommended Posts

Father and grandfather used to reload back in the 40s and 50s with very basic kit because there wasn't much if anything available and they didn't have much money available. To deprime they used a block of wood with a hole drilled in it for the primer to go into which was knocked out by using a cut down bike spoke. To reprime they pushed a  new primer in and drove it Home by using a bit of dowels rod inside the case down onto the wood block.  They didn't resize because the cartridge had been used in that chamber or it fitted in anyway. Powder and shot were just measured by hand dipper. They made wads out of cardboard and thick fibre felt cut with a wad punch. All the parts were pushed in with the bit of dowel. The crimp was refolded and formed by using the dowel. The crimp was secured by a coat of varnish.  All very basic but it worked well and they used to shoot a ton of stuff with these  cartridges which they used to sell on. It was a case of ingenuity and needs must. A bit different to how it is now.

Pretty much how I do 8 bore. A 4” or 6” nail knocks them out and the flat head reprimes

Where are you, how many do you need sized etc.  I have a mec 600 which I use just for that job, measure the shot powder separately.  Be happy to run some through for you no problem, just based on your location.

Hi, that’s a very kind offer. I’m based in Hampshire so not sure how far that is from you? I will check to see if sizing  is actually necessary by seeing if the empties fit back into the chamber. Empties are 3” fiochhi cases I have used over recent years. Been hoarding with the intention of getting in reloading.
I’ve seen a few videos of some basic tools knocked up in a garage so will attempt that before splashing out on the x ring - which does looks pretty good to be fair.
Thanks for all the advise so far !

Hah!! A fair distance.  Yes, Fiocchi cases are the way to go. I now only load those as I found red cases seem to swell after resizing and can be a tight fit if not impossible to put in the chamber. Had a couple stuck but never with Fiochi.  DO NOT  reload the cases more than one time as the heads often separate leaving the plastic in the chamber.
