Volvo XC70

After years of struggling to get all my kit in my car ( 2013 E220 saloon ), ive decided to get something more practical,  and ive been looking at the  Volvo XC70. Im not looking for a dedicated off roader, just something with more room for kit, the ability to drive on rough paths and margins but still a decent amount of comfort. Has anyone owned one of these before? What are the pro's & cons, what i need to look out for?TIA

I drove one of these for a couple of years about 5 years ago. It was the D5 version. Went everywhere I now go with my Discovery Sport. Quiet, comfortable - probably the most comfortable seats in any car I've had. Huge carrying capacity. Essential you find a Volvo specialist for servicing, main dealer prices are savage. If you're image-conscious  then be prepared to have the p*** taken by your mates. Its a thoroughly good, solid, safe big car - but may be a little dull for some tastes.

Thats what i was hoping to hear, thanks. Thankfully i'm past the age of worrying what people think, comfort & safety over image anyday.

We bought a 184bhp auto D5 SE Lux new in 2006, it's now coming up to 200k miles. It's taken us all over Europe in great comfort, it goes well but isn't particularly economical, low 30's is the mpg. It's serviced by a Volvo specialist and bills can be pretty expensive. It has the selectable sport/comfort suspension with special electronic shockers, they leak and replacements are nigh on £1k per pair fitted for either end.

We only need one car now and the jury is out on whether to get rid of it, or keep it and get rid of our soulless 100k Honda CRV instead.

In 2016 I bought one of the last production XC70. Without a doubt the best car I have ever owned. Oodles of space, reliable, safe, brilliant tow car. I can't praise it enough. I used it on my perm which is very steep, muddy and terrible terrain. With more ground clearance and more aggressive tyres I could probably have gone anywhere.

It was always serviced by Volvo and during 5 years of ownership never missed a beat or cost me a penny more than its service.

One of only two cars in my life I regret getting rid of.

If they still made them I would have another in a heartbeat.
