harrycatcat1 Posted January 31, 2023 Report Share Posted January 31, 2023 (edited) This filter thing under the boiler has started leaking from the black plastic screw thing in the middle. It's at my lads house so I have put a container under it for now. I tried tightening it with my fingers but no change. What does it need to cure the leak and how do I do it please? discobob Posted January 31, 2023 Report Share Posted January 31, 2023 (edited) isolate top and bottom (your system will be losing pressure and introducing air possibly) by the red valve "keys" and then nip to your local plumbers merchants and ask them for a like for like replacement if they don't have the O rings - couple of spanners and you should be able to replace it without draining down the system - also pick up some inhibitor and put that in it before turning the water on. Sentinel inhibitor would be a safe bet.... pressurize the system - you may end up with some air in a radiator for a day or so - just bleed them off. If someone draws off any hot water the diverter valve will open to dump any excess heat into the heating side of the system. Once the o ring's have gone flat their a pain in the butt to seal. After you have replaced them open the bottom valve slightly then vent the filter with the air vent on top of the filter, if no leaks open both valve's fully then top up the system to 1 bar cold fill. Turn the boiler off (I didn't know about that dumping that B725 put up) - isolate with the red quarter turn valves and then give it a try - what have you got to lose but still get new O rings if it does work Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Boss white is a sealing compound mainly used with hemp to provide a seal on screwed threads.
