State Pension

I'm in my 11th week of retirement, will be 66 in August this year and responded to the 'Claim your state pension' letter last week.

I find that its a process of 'continual adjustment',  I still find myself doing stuff at the weekends that I could do in the week - old habits die hard.

Everyone I have spoken to with the exception of one person has said that since they retired they don’t know how they found the time to work, they are that busy.

The exception is my sisters Fil who has no hobbies and work was his life.

He worked till 80 odd and is now 92

You need to have interests Shaun way before retirement and I don't mean spending all of your time on the garden and cleaning your car , it do take time to adjust , to begin with you think you are on your holidays from your work place and it take some time for it to sink in that you are now tottally free from the routine you have been doing for most of your working life .

I had a bit of a build up to the big day as my boss carried on paying me until the fiancial year finished , with my birthday being in November it was in the height of the game shooting season , I finished on a Friday and we had a shoot the following day when at the time I drove the gun wagon and looked after the team of guns , every now and again I done the odd day on the digger where I pulled up the odd tree stump and level off a farm track here and there , as time was my own I never again done a whole days work apart from a shoot day , if it was a days digger work I would take my dog and work till around dinnertime , then call it a day and go around the different fields where I would expect to find a few Pigeons , after a while I got well and truly used to doing what I wanted to do and when I wanted to do it .

Now any digger work is now a distant memory and all my ( free ) time is spent on the shoots in the season and crop protection in the off season, add to that, is pottering about in my house and the various medical appointments that crop up for me and my wife as we are both in our mid 70s.

So to sum it up , it worked out fine for me and was better than I expected , I know a few chaps on the shoot who are roughly the same age and I never hear one of them moan about not having enough to do , having to much to do yes , but never not enough .  MM

You will love it , might take a little while to get used to it but the time will come .
