Self employment question

I've bitten the bullet and am going to start my own gardening company. I've decided to go as'sole trader'. I've applied for self assessment but now appear to be stuck. I've read up about the process but how do I actually register a new company.  Advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

As Archi says, if you are going down the sole trader route then you do not need to form a ltd company.

Depending upon your success, you may have to register for VAT in the future

The vat threshold is £85,000 turnover in a single trading year.

Good luck

My advice is stay simple- sole trader - working out of your bank account- stay away from Ltd and vat unless you really need to- learn how to do your books and keep what you need to keep- pay a account once a year £450 or so to do your end of year accounts

Too many rush and start Ltd companies and vat when it would of suited them better to stay as a sole trader I.E your name T/A Gardener services etc

Have been self employed for around 25 years now, and much prefer it to 9 to 5, and although it can be very frustrating at times it does offer greater freedom and better use of my time.
I could make a lot more money than I do, but tend to just make as much as I need, often taking Fridays off to work in the studio….which isn’t a day off really as it’s also work! 🙂 Just work I really really enjoy, to the extent I’m often in there of an evening and weekends also if I’ve nowt else on. 🤷‍♂️

Youll enjoy it. No sick pay ( so you won’t get sick! ) unpaid holidays, unpaid bank holidays, bad payers, unthinking customers! It’s great!
The perks more than make up for it though; keep all your receipts and claim for EVERYTHING! 👍

Hi Scully

My circumstances changed last year, went from a well paid Monday to Friday job, was salaried for 40 hours per week but often worked 60 to 80, loads of stress and unable to enjoy days off and holidays as work was always in my mind. I put up with that for over ten years, until enough was enough and I packed in. Been working part time for the past 9 months and will start my business around these hours, if it goes well I'll do it full time. Bring on the bad payers, unpaid holidays etc. I'll be doing something I enjoy and will have peace of mind to boot. Responsible to me and not managing ther people. Ps do you have a website where you display your artwork?

Don't be affraid to turn work down if you think the customer is  going to be a pain.

Toe now definitely in the water, company name, Facebook,  Mesanger, website all almost completed. Just looking at the best places to focus on. I'm absolutely stunned with the amount of people who don't want to cut their own grass 😒
