Sunday Ferret Fun

Well, SS, Pin & myself thought it was about time the Herts boys got out, and to give you members something else to read about other than the Essex Mafia's weekend exploits in club *******. :good:

Anyway..

It was an early start - which started the first confusion as the clocks changed, with clocks, phones. & even watches set back an hour it was an early 8:00 start at SS's (via breakfast )

Pin and I arrived at SS's and met up with a couple of others who sadly would only be joining us for a short while.

Truck loaded up with men, dog and ferrets we set off on the short drive to SS's permission.

On arrival and after gathering up all the ferreting paraphernalia we were all set. A short walk found us staring at what is known locally as "Bunny Avenue"

The nets were taken from their bags, where some had been sleeping since last winter - this gave us another problem !

A long net with more twists and knots in it than was healthy, it took the best part of an hour and some great netmanship from young Sam to finally get the net in a state where it could be used.

Myself and Pin set about laying purse nets along the hedge line whist battle commenced with the long net.

Finally the all systems go message for given by SS, ferrets were collared up and we were off.

It could only have been 3-4 minutes before we had a bolt, which ended up with a bunny in the bag. This continued as the ferrets and us worked the two burrows, with the help of SS's goldie Becky.

A comedy moment whilst Pin was sent for some more batteries for the finder, was watching SS rise like a salmon through the hedge with his mitts firmly pressed around a good sized bunny, a save that even that poor excuse for a keeper Almunia would be proud of.

We ended this cracking day with 12 (one mixy) for around 3 - ½ hrs work.

It was mine and the two others who departed early, first time out ferreting. I have to say it lived up to all the hype and pre-season chat that I had heard from both Pin & SS over the last few warmer months.

Thanks guys for a great day.

Here are a few pics.

Good result lads, especially as the real cold weather hasn't occurred yet.

Pin & SS, I hope they'll be no excuses such as aching backs from carrying and bending, at MM tomorrow :good::good::lol:

SS

The only complaint is "fizzy" knees from kneeling in all those nettles :yp:

Besides, I don't need an excuse to miss, I can do that without one no bother :yp:

Good write up mate, glad you enjoyed it :good:

You forgot to mention the big geordie diving cat like on to a pursed rabbit & giving it his best bruce lee karate chop, then stretching its neck & handing it to me to put alongside the other bunnies, only for it to jump up & leg it to the nearest hole :good::lol: :yp: luckily for the big fella it was back netted & duly dispatched properly.

Thank god for young Sam, untangling that longnet I was all set to burn the bloody thing :yp:
