little help on fac

Recommended Posts

Hi, first time on the site, so thought i may aswell get posting. Im currently applying for a fac, with the purpose of getting a .243, but (as all of you are prob aware) it asks for details on how much ammunition you want to keep and also how much you want to buy at any one time??? so my query is, how much is reasonable to keep, and (on average) how many rounds do you get per pack?? I have have a good 500 acres to go at, and plenty of foxes and deer, and would be going out on average 2/3 times a month.

My second question is, ive heard a lot of people talk about .243 and winchester .243, is there a difference?

Any help greatly appreciated

thanks.

Hi R

Welcome to the site

Above info is correct.

Once the bug has bitten you'll be out 2-3 times a week not a month

You always ask to keep more ammo than the amount to buy or you end up running out before you can buy more. It depends on how close you are to you’re nearest supplier and if you've got the time to get there. If your shooting fox then you will probably use a 55>>80 Grn bullet but for deer you might use a 80 >> 105 grn bullet

Another aspect of this is that if over the next five years you decide to go into hand loading as a lot of people do, then remember that the tips are classed as individual rounds like a factory loaded round. So if you buy a box of 100 tips that’s half of you allocation taken up straight away and they might not suit your gun. And you might end up with trying five or six or more different types before you find the sweet load.

I would advise that you apply for an allocation of expanding missiles (That's what they are termed as on the cert) at the outset so that if you want to go this way you don’t have to send in your cert for amendment and pay for a variation.

<_< Stupid question time, what happens if you buy over your allocation as you were going shooting, you dont use enough and then theres too many left. Does anyone actually check up on you?

Ive just been told I can hold 750 .22 but only buy 500 at a time. ( i think thats the right way round...damn gonna have to read it again!)

it should be impossible to do assuming you don't buy too frequently and ignore your holding amount. In practice no one actually checks the amounts you hold unti possibly at renewal time or were you to get flgged up as buying far too frequently but I've never heard of it happen

You can't buy more than stated on the certificate as they have to be entered on it and the dealer would be in big trouble if he sold you more! Nobody really checks up on what you hold as far as I know, but it would be extremely daft to risk your cert by storing too many. If you purchase your ammo limit and regularly use them all up in a short time, then you have fair reason to ask to buy/hold more legally ???
