The Home Office - this is what's really going on

I wonder if the appropriate Minister has asked why these civil servants were unable to provide any answers or appeared to deliberately be obstructive. They need holding to account. If they can't answer questions about their own job, why are they still in it? It is a disciplinary offence.

oowee - what is your take on their performance?

These sorts of clips show how poor is the scrutiny by parliamentary select committees.

Questions from MPs who have no training, experience or depth of knowledge (generally) about the subject under discussion. It’s akin to a borough council, with the elected member/shopkeeper asking about technical planning decisions, etc.

I’ve seen a few over the years, heard outright false statements from witnesses, but the MP doesn’t know enough to challenge a boldly-stated nonsense, doesn’t have any legal/public speaking training to ask follow-up questions and doesn’t care because he wants to be a cabinet minister really, so doesn’t want to rock the boat.

Those were his MP bosses. That was a Parliamentary Committee to whom he is supposed to report

AND,not a patch on what happens over the pond when facing a Congressional hearing.

those boys don't hold back and don't let go when they get a grip👍

how long did the director of the secret service last when they they ripped into her over the attempt on "the Donald's" life?

we need that type/style of tenacity over here but the woke/liberal/leftists would have a field day defending the whinging/whining unemployable anywhere else tools👍

Those UnCivil Servants know they are untouchable.

Same with Brexit, they did everything in their power to derail it. Probably still are

Gordon, how can you really expect anything else but the situation you highlight above?

No qualifications needed other than a nod from another? Job done, in post and virtually untouchable? Even better working from home, play time every day?

At least the original "yes minister" was funny and well acted?

oowee holds senior civil servants in high regard. I do not.

They looked like rabbits trapped in the headlights. Totally unprepared to be questioned in any way shape or form. I honestly couldn't decide whether they were being deliberately obstructive or were merely as thick as two short planks. Civil servants are there to carry out the policies of the Government of the day and assist. These appeared to do neither.

They insulted the committees.
