If you need a giggle?!

That was a very well made video and interesting to see your approach. Being there is what counts and no doubt you will get some next time.

I don't shoot geese in UK but when we shoot them in Africa we have almost total concealment in the hide.

Once again a nice clear video , one question , why are you intent in trying to get three shots off ? , I have never had a modern day three shot and only ever used side by sides , but you just seem in a hurry to let the three shots off where you might do better by taking your time with two shots and keeping the third shot as a reserve in case needed after hitting one hard with your second shot , not criticizing only curious ?  MM

Hi Marsh Man, I have since moved back to a side by side (a modern one), I guess two well place shots are better than a gun with 10 shots that I struggle with!  You are right of course. one or two well placed shots should be the priority. Easier said than done at the moment.

Gun fit is always more important than barrel number or orientation.

Times move on , the most popular 5 shot autos in my younger days were the Browning 5 shot and the Remington which I think was the 1100 , this was of course in the days when you could use lead , very rarely they ever used the 5 shots that were available as in those days money was tighter than it is today and they found after firing three shots the birds they were firing at were mostly out of range after the third shot , then after a while they found that these were not really the ideal guns on the tidal estuary and changed to what was then a modern over and under or a good English three inch side by side , me and my brother did once buy a Beretta Silver Pigeon 5 shot pump action , this must had been the most clumsy gun we had ever used , I used to catch my nose a lot and had more blood on me from the gun than any duck or geese we ever shot , that was also the quickest gun we ever bought and then sold it , Happy days   MM

I guess, I have never had lessons, tuition or been fitted properly. Just a lifetime of bad habits! I do though plan to do more clay shooting in the off season and get a tutor to look at all my horrible bad habits!

I would not be too critical. You sit there for an age and then a target comes once in a while. It always takes me a few shots to get my eye in 🙂

I can't take it too seriously. I get some quite critical comments on YouTube which I guess I ask for, but it's supposed to be fun, like having a round of golf or going fishing or having a pint. People get very serious! when its no longer fun its time to give it all up. I enjoy it all hit or miss. or at least 5 minutes after the miss!

One of the members mentioned about gun fitting which I agree  can only help , one of the problems is you can be kneeling , crouched down the side of a creek or sitting in a boat , on top of that you wear a variety of clothing , both thick and thin depending on the weather conditions ;

I was never in the position where I could afford to have a gun fitted , we bought a suitable gun and if we liked it we would use it all the year round at everything , we were not into clays but Starlings were on the list then and we had 100s if not 1000s of them flying about the marshes , we had a allotment on the edge of the marsh so we would practise on Starlings , far better than all the clays put together , with side by sides the chokes were fixed and my best gun was a Midland Gun Company, three inch side by side , 32 inch barrels that had full and full , I would use it for everything , walked up Partridges , Pigeon decoying and mainly wildfowling , my advice would be find a gun you like and stick with it instead of keep changing it for whatever you are going after and once you can handle it then you won't be blaming the gun when you have a bad day , you owe it to yourself to try and kill what you are firing at rather than just trying to hit it , it's not that hard hitting a goose with a five foot wing span but it's a sight harder in killing it rather than just hitting the bird . GOOD LUCK .   MM

As has been said gun fit is very important as is practise. I love using my pump (mossy 600at) and shoot it better than most of my other guns. With the fumbles it would be worth just going to a clay shoot and just practise that every time you hit the trigger pump immediately. So its bang, pump then observe after a couple of rounds it should become natural. That being said i have tried a couple of synthetic SXP's like yours and i just didn't get on with it. The sort of assisted opening it has threw me off as the lack of heavy grip/texture on the fore end made it slip in my hand. If you want 3 shots it would be worth trying a different gun as second hand pumps aren't worth much (mine cost me £170).

Forgot to add im 6'3" and had to extent the stock out to 15" LOP. All pumps and less so semi's are very short so first stop for gun fit would be stock extension imo 👍

Thanks Northerner. All good sound logic. This film was a few weeks back. I’ve since put the Pump to the back of the cabinet! I do have a nice Remington semi-auto that I should use more often and a couple of side by sides. I’ve recently got a nice SXS Yildiz that feels more natural…and is HP proofed for these TSS loads.
