You know there is a fine line in a bit of banter and taking the pxxx , the latter have never been and never will be my intention and that go for the majority who follow you and other Pigeon shooters on the forum , we like a little laugh now and again and maybe after you spending a long day going around your countryside in search of a days sport to no avail you might not always see the funny side .

We all know how much work go into getting a half tidy bag on rape and people like myself are now getting towards the sell by date , I can no longer stick the cold on a Winters day trying to get a few Pigeons that I no longer have any need for , yesterday I spent the whole day ( 10am till 9.45 ) in the Norfolk / Norwich Hospital having two stents put in my arteries so at the moment apart from some gentle exercise my days of lugging any amount of gear over a sticky wet field is just a pipe dream and will be left to those who do fancy it .

So keep up the good work and think up another game we can compare your exploits with

Oh Gawd, hope you make a full and fast recovery! Cheers!

Morning kitchrat ... I didn't have a very good nights sleep but I woke up which was the main thing , I walked my dog down to the river and it was one of those mornings where the geese were calling out everywhere , the various sedatives and local anesthetic they gave me must have still been in my blood stream as I thought I was in heaven , I then thought if this is heaven then I better find out where the nearest gun shop was , sadly the cold started to get to me and the sedatives were wearing off so I was slowly coming back to the land of the living , still it was nice while it lasted .

Battle on! I've had a hip replacement 10 years ago (which is wearing out) and the other needs doing too, so I know where you are coming from. However, it gets better quite soon. A neighbour of mine in Canada had a heart attack, got some stents and within a month was back at the gym building up his strength again. So, your future should be good!

By the way, as we were setting up on Wednesday a skein of Canadas (unusual round here) flew right over us at a shootable height but no one was loaded! I do have a pinkfoot for Xmas, after my trip to Jockland however.

Cheers, John

Thanks for this, I'll get mended over the summer, when pigeon shooting is quiet. NHS will be no help in any useful timescale but it's just money....

Weather it was just a coincidence but one of the best Pinkfoot goose I have ever had was one a mate of mine shot in Scotland , one of the shooting party who went up was a butcher and he dressed the lot out so mine was oven ready ,it might had been left the right amount of time , reasonably young and been feeding on the right stuff , having said that some of the others might not had been so nice , if I was going to do a goose for Christmas I would buy something else as a backup and more than likely have the goose cold for a Boxing Day lunch with anything else left over .

Many THANKS for your kind words old'un , apart from being a bit tired I have been fine and been out twice for a longish walk , one of the effects of the blood thinners I have been taking make me feel the cold a lot more than I ever did , mind you as the years roll on you have to accept it , I just put another jumper on and carry on as normal .

Yesterday afternoon when I came out of the ward where they carried out this heart procedure I was feeling fine apart from being a wobbly I sat in my chair and after about half an hour a nice young lady came and released some of the air that was in my pressure bracelet I had on that stop the bleeding from the artery in my wrist , this was no problem , then another nurse brought me a cup of tea and a hospital sandwich , excellent service , I was enjoying my cup of tea while reading my paper when I started to see the pages turning Red , I lifted up the paper and I had a pool of blood where the blood was coming out of my bracelet , I called a nurse and she cleaned me up a bit with another gown and blanket as it was cold in the ward where I was , I had my trousers on and it looked as if I had a major period , still again no problem , I finished my tea and sandwiches and just chucked away a couple of pages from my newspaper

By the way old'un , both me and kitchrat are both called John , we can call him John the Pigeon slayer and I am very happy to be called The Armchair Ex Pigeon Shooter :drinks:

All this talk about magnets! I suppose I’ll have to get mine out, pop down to a mates garage and get the bottom triangle welded back on!,  suppose I shouldn’t have tried to hammer it into sun baked ground under laid barley patch with the back of my hatchet.

Sun baked ground!!! seems years ago😩

Sorry everyone, I didn’t read the last few entries reference hospitalisation etc hope you/we all improve soon

I’m coming up eighty so hips are  f,  f,  not good, had a new knee five years ago and the nhs around Yorkshire must have saved more brass than elsewhere as they seem to jump on any reported shortness of breath with chest x rays, lung x rays, ultrasound here and there and then gave me a clean bill of health so I find them  ( NHS)  terrific.

Funny you should say that but with Johns of our age being as common as anything (not muck!) in the beaters' wagon, I made this hat a few years ago as an ID and the name has stuck! Cheers,
