RFD to RFD

A friend of mine has bought a rifle from another friend of mine and arranged to have it sent from the sellers RFD to a local one here in south Wales. The rifle was handed in to the sellers RFD over a week ago and nothing has been sent. My friend inquired about this and was told that the RFD who was sending the rifle 'is having problems with Parcelforce' and it will be another two weeks before it's sent. According to the RFD, he has already 'lost' two moderators and a rifle' that were sent and 'the police are involved'. I won't mention where the RFD is based as the rifle that was purchased is from a good friend of mine who is a very trustworthy PW member.

Strange one.

Can't see why there's 2 weeks delay sending it.

Maybe he's covering himself and waiting till after the holiday.

Yes, I think the 'problem' is with the RFD. I don't believe for one minute that a rifle and two moderators have been lost by Parcelforce. And RFD to RFD is usually within 24hrs.

I can confirm the RFD-RFD times. A got a gun off here RFD-RFD and it was sent on the Saturday, received on the Tuesday.

Thanks. I have been sent two (different times) on weekdays and both arrived within 24hrs. Weekends 'don't count' and the item is held until the next working week day.

As a trade account holder with Parcelforce I think the RFD that claims "He's having problems with Parcelforce" could be in my opinion 1 of several things.

1/ He's behind on his account. And they've frozen him.

2/ He's not a member of a trade body like BASC or the GTA (A proviso for RFD's to ship guns through ParcelForce)

3/ He is very rural and Parcelforce struggled to get to him. They sometimes fail to collect from me. I am rural. It's a rare occasion but it sometimes happens when they are down on drivers and you are far from the depot. But even when they fail to collect they collect the very next day so only a 1 day delay.

4/ He's BSing you. Unfortunately there are a number of those RFD's in the trade.

5/ Parcelforce is having a problem with him.

It is really is easy to send a firearm through Parcelforce if you are an RFD and a bonafide Parcelforce account holder with a log in account. Half a dozen clicks, print off a label, stick it on the parcel and wait for collection. It's that simple.

Normally it is sent & received within a few days. We can't book same day collection anymore. You book today for collection tomorrow. And yes all firearms must go 24hr service or "Next day before noon." And the last day for shipments going out before Christmas was Friday the 20th of December.

In 25 years I've never really had a problem with Parcelforce. Except the odd time they failed to collect. As for losing stuff. I had two guns go missing on two separate occassions. When you mention "firearms" they pull out all the stops to find it. And they did on both occassions. They are sorted off the conveyor and put into cages because they are firearms related. The usual suspect is they fall of the conveyor belt due to size and shape of the parcel and no one bothers to pick them up until they are told to. Both mine were found on the floor in the corner of the depot. I don't buy his "Parcelforce lost them" excuse. Unless they fall off the back of a lorry they can't get lost at all.

I'm sorry I'm rambling but it really p's me off rfd's are still going & bringing us all into disrepute by their excuses and practice methods.

And to highlight, these are my opinions from experience of the trade goings on. I don't know the rfd and am not saying exactly what happened. I just know something is fishy. I do see negativity on here towards gunsmiths and "rfd's" and this is a good example of why.
