scouser Posted Thursday at 20:31 Report Share Posted Thursday at 20:31 Just been offered a .17 hornet at a really good price, anyone had any experience of one, nice bridge between HMR and .223.

Yes a great little round. I bought one for Fox Control on a Poultry small holding with houses on one side. Dropped them for fun and never a noise complaint (or ricochet) using a Panther Mod, as quiet as an HMR. Max range was around 100 yards but it was deadly on them. markm Posted Friday at 14:17 Report Share Posted Friday at 14:17 Basically a 17HMR on acid. No louder than a HMR and little if any recoil. Cheap to run and next to nothing to reload in the dinky case.

So it’s not a .17 bullet, low weight (say 20grn) eg - a VMAX bullet, travelled faster than the HMR hence my comment “on acid” Of course what would I know being a user and reloaded of one. Ps - I don’t need a lecture on it being a centre fire, necked down .22 hornet, small primer case that I happen to reload using - Case length 1.340" 11.4 grains of H4198 Federal SR primers COL 1.710" Edited Sunday at 18:48 by markm

zx10mike
awesome round my first shot I aimed 2" high at 200 for a clean head shot .very capable at 400 imo . wind is the enemy with those 20 grn bullets as expected. mine was quieter than my hmr . I wish they did better brass but not a deal breaker.
