Gonna Shoot a Wabbit

Hi All.

Well dead eye duck and i were out today. The pigeons are just starting to show an interest in the winter rape so we thought we would check out the flightlines and such. We set our hide perhaps 100yds off the flightline under an oak tree. It didn't take long before a few birds circled round us and a singleton came straight in at don (chuffin' typical he gets all the easy shots )which he folded up in the air 25yds out. I was up next and scored an easy 25yarder in the tree tops. Don next again and he hit a good bird 35yds out that carried on to a small spinney and pitched into the trees ( we found this bird later ). My turn next and a bird circled round and crossed me left to right at 40yds which i duly knocked down with complete ease (and resisted the urge to do a lap of honour round the field!!) HA HA.

Don next and when 3 birds came in 25 - 30yds out he managed a nice right and left, ( well two out of three DOES IT STILL COUNT AS A RIGHT AND LEFT FROM A BERETTA SEMI AUTO?:good:)

I missed my next bird so dons turn to shoot next........ You will have to forgive me gents the following paragraph is very difficult to write...... each stroke of the keyboard is like touching a hot coal.......or putting your fingers in a food mixer YOU MAY HAVE GUESSED WHATS COMING................ Well i had better get on with it, a singleton approached the decoys and flared off at 40 - 45yds i decided not to shoot as it was too far for the 1/4 choke in my beretta. So what does dead eye duck do only stand up and with the bird now at 50 - 60yds swing through and bang......thump...... as the bird hits the floor stone dead and has come to rest some 95yds away from the hide........ i was absolutely staggered, i am sure it will come as no surprise that aged companion was completely insufferable. ( i am not surprised he must have hit that bird at 60 - 65yds) i say with no hesitation it was the finest shot i have ever seen with a shotgun. It went quiet after this so we decided to pack up and head for home at lunchtime.

Not a big bag by any standards but i am sure dead eye duck would agree worth going out for his singleton on its own. Here is a photo of the slain and faithful labrador.

I will never, ever forget the look on Gonna's face when I dropped that long range pigeon. Trying to look as calm and insufferable as possible I repeated the shot (dry firing) over again, and again, and again - just to show him how I did it.

There is indeed a God, and it was Him and not me that pointed my gun in that instant.

My cartridge/kill ratio was probably 70-80% :lol::/:D :D ;):lol::good::lol: : :lol: :lol:

Gonna had a **** day, and was probably in the low 30%.

To be fair (as I can afford to be) the hide was way off the flightline and we couldn't place it any closer.

But I shot the best :lol::D

Numbers mean nowt when you have thoroughly, absolutely, magnificently wiped both eyes of your shooting companion. :good: :good:
