In the days before the HK MP5 started replacing for most uses (that up to then) the cheaper to buy Remington 870 loaded with solid slug had been chosen. For what purpose? The tools available at the time were pistols, the Remington 870 and for the those in an "overwatch" 'scoped bolt action rifles. So the Remington 870 was the thing carried for use at intermediate distances by those who otherwise would have had only pistols as a 'scoped bolt action rifle wasn't either portable enough and would encumber quick exit from a vehicle (even if it could have actually fitted in the vehicle) and for the targets likely to be needed to be engaged and any benefit of greater range and greater precision a very poor trade-off against its lack of rapid fire against possible multiple targets at those fifty to one hundred yard distances. I think, with that, I'll end the conversation here. Edited 12 hours ago by enfieldspares

So if it was a persistent problem, then yes, let 'them' know. Also, is this not covered in the 'safety training' prior to taking the CPSA Level 1 course ? 🤔 The safety officer training teaches you to identify a misfire or incorrect muzzle report. And then how to deal with it. It’s taught as I said earlier, to return the offending cartridge to the supplier. But my question was, does anyone actually do it, which has now been answered. We only used slugs through Remi 870's for door locks and hinges.

Yeah, that’s true, not that I need to explain, but at the start of last year I had a pretty scary heart issue, found out I have Atrial fibrillation at the whopping age of only 35. So after a year of tests and having the procedure done, I thought life’s too short and am now getting into and doing everything I wanted to but not being able to as a kid. Hence the RC airplanes, and also wanting to teach clay target shooting into an ever decreasing sport, and probably anything else that comes along.. Secondly, even if they were, I’m struggling to think who or how grief could be caused to anyone. Thirdly, no rivers are dredged. Whenever we made distorted rounds as hand loaders, we would pull the round and if the case and primer were still intact reload it. If we didn’t have a bullet puller or the round was too deformed to pull we’d simply throw the round into the deep part of a local river. Some of the lads would pile em up, pour fuel on and light them. I’ve heard and experienced more impressive farts than a heated load. Two pages on what to do with a dud load! 🤷♂️

Every time the River Welland is dredged they find stuff a couple of hundred yards downstream from the bridge, we had one of these a few years ago.
