Cartridge Choice

This. I use exactly the same load. I have a head keeper friend who only ever buys 21 gram CompX.
The real truth is that whatever you use won’t make a blind bit of difference.

As above. A blooming good cartridge.   Plenty in half choke.  So many shooters go way over the top with shot size and load weight.  A pheasant or anything is the same now as it has always been.  Back when most guns were 2.1/2" chambers game loads were 1.1/16 Grand Prix or 1.1/8 and other than that it was ounce impact. Now shooters want to use 42grm #4 at pheasants coming over oak trees. You could probably knock those down with a 410 . what does matter is putting the lead on the target.  I know use half choke in both barrels all the time.  I do tend to use 30/32.grm #5 for pigeon that flyt into sitting trees.  Smaller shot nearly pluck the bird but many times they just fly away and drop across the fields somewhere as Charlie food.

Well lads, this thread is good for me to catch up to doings back home!

Tend to agree with M above.

When I left, Grand Prix was the usual choice and that was 1 1/16th ounce load, or the Eley Impax as M says. (One ounce) Or Three Crows the same as Grand Prix.

Pigeon clubs liked the 1 1/8 ounce load.

So, I am completely out of it when we talk of Grams!  Need to look those up.

I did use a few Hymax, but mainly stayed with Grand Prix even for ducks  but we shot a flight pond.

My old John Blissett hammer gun with no choke did it all.  It still does, but not much shooting here.

Best,

R.
