Dunkield
According to the Money Program the other night they are in a bit of difficulty as it is, this won't help. I chucked a pack of take-away Guinness's into the shopping trolley last week, just to help them out a bit I haven't seen the Red stuff about yet, has anyone tried it? Dunkield
It is their attempt to win lager drinkers over. If you like Guinness you may not like it, but I will decide when I give it a try. The TV program was quite interesting, for instance Guinness has less calories than orange juice, despite the fact it is seen as a 'heavy' drink. Guinness is no more fattening or calorific than any other beer of similar alcoholic strength. The beer has no fat, however it does contain protein, sugar, carbohydrates and alcohol. The alcohol accounts for 65-75% of the calorific content irrespective of the beer in question. Per pint, Draught Guinness has 210 calories; as a reference, one pint of semi-skimmed milk has 260 calories and one pint of orange juice has 220 calories. Draught Guinness actually has fewer calories than most other premium beers and lagers.
russuk
I watched that show. Amazing how much of a market share Guiness has lost over in Ireland, so much so they want to sell the brewery site. If I remember correctly this was for around the 3 billion euro mark, not a bad business deal in anyone's books. This robbery is more likely to be for the money that will come from scrapping the kegs than it is the value of the beer. Good party after cashing in the kegs though. Personally all I drink at the moment is Guiness, can't beat a night on the black stuff after a game of rugby.

Ballymac
Trial of new Guinness Red gets underway in 142 pubs in Great Britain 24 January 2007 Europe This February, the brewers of Guinness® will commence a trial of GUINNESS RED™, a new type of Guinness, which uses lighter roasted barley for a rich red colour and a bittersweet taste. At this early stage, Guinness Red will only be available in 142 pubs and bars within the UK and the launch partner for the trial is Mitchells & Butlers (MAB), who owns outlets including O’Neill’s, Castle, Ember and Tavern. Simon Garnett, Senior Innovation Manager for Guinness Red comments: “The Guinness brand has a reputation for exciting innovation in the beer category. Whilst Guinness Red is still very much in the initial test phase, we expect it to be enjoyed by less regular drinkers of Guinness; people who love the brand but perhaps only drink a few pints a year on events such as St Patrick’s Day and when watching rugby. Guinness Red has all the hallmarks of the distinctive brand they love but with different flavours and a bittersweet taste.†Guinness Red has an ABV of 4.1%, in line with Guinness Draught and will be priced in line with Guinness Draught also. Following the trial, a full evaluation will be conducted and a decision will be made as to whether Guinness Red will be officially launched in the UK. -Ends- Extract from Diageo (owners of guinness) not sure how the trial is going, anyone taste it is it available from off licence etc,
