Donor card or blood/bone marrow donor?

I ticked the box to be a donor on my driving license application. I look at it like this, if I were dying and needed an organ to carry on living, I would accept a donated organ. Therefore, to not be willing to donate mine seemed hypocritical. Cannot remember which organs I ticked, but I recall it was most if not all, and frankly the next time it is of any relevance, I wont know a great deal about it.

I have never donated blood, no reason for this, just never really thought about it. Will add it to the NYR list though

Having got a nephew that has just had two heart transplants in two weeks this is a great thread . The availability of donor organs is much bigger than you think.I dont recon that automatic donor registration will ever be passed. Can you imagine the jumped up do gooders complaining about infringing on human rights.

I donate blood on a regular basis and have done for years .

I have registered my wishes on the national organ donor register and am also on the Antony Nolan bone marrow register.

I have been selected to donate bone marrow on two occasions but never got to give as someone who was a closer match than me was found.

You cannot ever imagine the thought of a young loved one going to die some day soon and then receiving a donor heart that will eventually lead to him making a full recovery.

Thank you to his and every other donor family out there

I think the government have got it spot on, as judging by the amount people who don`t/won`t read rules/pinned topics then 80% of people who die will have everything useful removed before they`re cold and more people who need the organs etc. will benefit.

BTW - I have donated blood for almost 30 years and have recently donated platelets and have been a full organ donor and bone marrow donor, however I fully understand if people didn`t want to donate anything, for any reason whatsoever.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread the wife wont and has asked me not to either.

Eyes being the gateway to the soul and all that.

I often wish I could give blood, but unfortunately I'm not allowed as I have a blood condition that prohibits it <_<]

I'd like to donate but the U.S Surgeon General has decided that I can't because "y'all come from a country with Mad Cow Disease"

Rrrrright :good:

How bizzare mind you he could have a point :big_boss:

I seem to remember ticking the boxes on my drivers licence but it was a while ago, do they still have this record?

Personally I don't mind what bits of me are used when I'm gone but I do hope they can grow new lungs and livers soon as I reckon I'll be needing them before long.

I think as long as my wife can see me whole and say good bye then they can take what they like before they burn me, I'm liking the idea of my ashes being made into shotgun carts and my friends dusting some clays with them.

Is there a website you can re-register on as I don't currently have a donor card.
