tulkyuk
what the hell are gleaning rights
Blackbart
Asking for shooting is one thing but (i think)gleaning rights is taking crops, etc that the farmer leaves after harvest,or somethiing like that. He will think you are taking the pee and have no chance of getting shooting permission.

Cranfield
There is always the chance that your question could put the Farmer off giving you vermin control access. Why not wait until your foot is in the door and they raise the question ? Its my experience that Farmers are happy for you to take what they don't want, but you ask on every occasion, ie you don't get blanket permission. 19_Ferrets
The only reason I asked this was there was a 2 page write up in the Xmas Copy of AirGun World on the SmallHolder ScrapBook - very good read.

auto culto
gleaning rights is from a bygone age. Modern combines and equipment dont leave much leftovers now unlike the old days. PS if you do have a little bit on the ground after the combine just shoot the pigeons instead and sell them. Its far less like hard work
Mungler
Asking a farmer for gleaning "rights". I have seen it all now. And to do your "gleaning" what were you going to use? Ask to borrow the farmer's machinery or do it by hand with a scythe of some sort and a wheel barrow? And once you had spent all afternoon to fill a wheel barrow with a load of oil seed rape ( ), what were you then going to do? The smart man would ask for a shooting "permission". webber
Glleaning rights are you real! I'm no bible basher, but if you want to know what gleaning is, and why it was, go and have a good read. I think that you will find that modern day society has replaced the need for gleaning with a public safety net called social security. webber
19_Ferrets
I dont intend or even meant to intend, helping my self to crops, etc. I just really meant to say, edible fungus, berries (rasp/black) and a bit of fallen wood for the fire. OneEye
I thnk it would be a good idea to get established as a helpful pest controller first, offer the farmer a hand hanging gates etc. Then after a bit, ask if he's got a use for that fallen tree, or minds you picking those blackberries. If you're doing professional pest control, then you ought to agree a proper price and stick to it. I think gleaning rights really is taking the p***. If I was the farmer I'd invite you to pop in and then set the dog on you
