.223 Tracer rounds

Recommended Posts

Someone was saying that they've stopped making tracer rounds because some EU law now says that you can't have phosphorous tipped rounds in the same factory that there is highly explosive powder.... I was on the hunt for some rounds and that's what I was told.

Another fantastic Labour idea.

Some of you seem a bit confused as to their composition and how tracers work.......

At the back/base part of the bullet, it contains a compound that is ignited by the powder charge of the round. Depending on what colour is desired, the compounds main metallic constitute is changed. On most 7.62 RG tracers this is evident from about 92m out to around 800m and about 400m max for the 5.56 tracers. The tip is purely paint so they are distinguishable from 'normal' rounds. Are for ricochets they do bounce more than normal FMJ rounds, but often it is just the tracer compound at the back that breaks off and goes skyward.

Physical impossibilty...

I take it you think tracers are a good idea for target or quarry shooting?

No, but I do belive having fun with firearms is perfectly OK.

...As long as you arn't a fool (which you won't be if you are an FAC holder).
