I sat down to renew my hunting licence this morning as it expires on the 31st and when I opened my pouch what was starring up at me but an unused, unfilled buck tag :D

I had forgotton that i had this tag as i had put it away before the November gun hunt, only problem is it expires at sunset on the 31st. So off to get rid of a few errens this morning, and then hunting this evening with the cross bow. This is going to be a hard one to fill with just a few hours of hunting available so will try a couple of tricks while out and hopefully will get a large dose of luck added.

Will let you all know how thins go. Now i need to find a sitter for tommorrow :good:

Of course I will....too hard to shoot a bow in the dark :good:

Well went out for 3 hours this evening. Set up just inside the wood about 20 feet from a very well used trail. As soon as i was set up it started to snow and the wind kicked up, but that did not keep the 800 gueese that I counted in from feeding. Along with the geese I counted 300 ducks into the field and 46 turkeys feeding.

Just before sunset the deer that I was expecting came through. two 12 point bucks, a 4 point buck, 3 adult does and a yearling. Only problem was they were 40 yards off from where I needed them :D , and with it being a very crusty snow that is down there was absolutely no chance of changing position to intercept them.

Well hopefully I can get my neice to sit the kids for me tommorrow, and hopefully I will remember a lighter for the apple burner aswell :D:yes: ...if not I will be trying a different setup tommorrow night.

Well by the time I had chores done and managed to get out to the field tonight I had around 45 minutes of shooting time. So after a quick 10 minute walk out to where i was setting up I pulled out the apple burner set it up, and tucked in to the base of one of my favourite basswood trees. A favourite because it is also a racoon den tree so no cover scent is needed........It is probably the only tree I will not take a coon out of for this very reason.

Well had the burner going for around 20 minutes when I could see deer starting towards it down the edge of the cut corn field. From that direction I am screened by some nice scrub rabbit bush and completely unseen. It took them around 5 minutes to wander over and start to sniff the burner, which is 11 meters in front of me.

Good news was I had 4 adult does and 3 yearling does at 11 meters, Bad news is I only had a buck tag :cry1::cry1: Well watched them until last shooting light and then stood up and oga boga,d them....boy did the jump :good:

An excellant end to this years season even if the tag stands empty.
