rayo
Hi Chaps Can anyone tell me as to how far from housing/ public footpaths must you be when shooting with a shotgun ? because on the way back from work today i noticed a very large flock of pigeons hitting a rape field so i got the field up on Google earth and measured that it was only about 300 yards from its widest point to near by houses All this may be in vain because the farmer may knock me back when i ask for permission but nothing ventured nothing gained Cheers Ray

mosa
50 yards from the centre of a road, not sure about houses but make call to police control room to get a log no etc before you shoot as no doubt the residents will
rayo
Maybe thats why i never see or hear anyone shooting there .chances are if the field was well away from houses etc someone would already be shooting it
markbivvy
no fixed distance from houses or other property. the law is, if your shot, bullets leaves your permission your in the brown stuff. at one time the cps would not prosecute if the distance was over 150yds, its now 300 or 350 yds not sure which.do you need the shoot that bad. Dirty Harry
There is no legal limit from houses but you need to consider the residents of the houses. If the farmer ok's it then chat with the householder to let them know you will be shooting away from the house and reassure them blah blah blah. Cranfield
There is all the information you need here http://www.basc.org.uk/content/codeofgoodshootingpractic Its not 50 yards from the centre of a public highway, its 50 feet. The thing with shooting near houses is you have to be careful not to cause a "public nuisance". It is best to keep away from places where there are people, or livestock if you can. rayo
Thanks for the replies' thinking about it it may cause a lot of hassle with residents etc so i think I'll just leave it Seeing all them pigeons just got the ticker beating a little faster !! chances are the farmer may have refused permission anyway with houses nearby All the best everyone for 2008
