Just browsing around and saw they've got a new "superstore" near exeter.

"We carry over 2000 shotguns , 800 rifles and a vast selection of air guns at any one time. We have been privileged with the distributorships for shotguns of Perazzi, Krieghoff, Beretta, Browning, Miroku, Bettinsoli, Lanber, Benelli, Blaser, Rotweil

And on rifles: Steyr Mannlicher, RPA, Unique Alpine, Tikka, Sako, Remington, Anschutz, Ruger, Walther.

On optics Schmidt and Bender, Leupold, Nightforce, Leica, Zeiss, Bushnell, Swarovski, Winchester, AGS."

Has anyone been for a visit and is it anygood ?

The website shows plenty of mail-order stuff and all new guns, do they have S/H as well <_<

I may pay a visit this weekend but if its cack i'll save the petrol

Cheers

Just to balance it up a bit...

I have used The Sportsman for years and been one of ther biggest fans, but like all volume retailers they can and do get it wrong from time to time.

Like 3 attempts to get the right size Butler Creek scope covers even though they had the scope in stock the covers were going on.

And not at all helpfull when I returned some faulty Chameau boots to them, the old "the manufacturer has to replace them under warranty not the shop" cobblers.

I have dealt with them since on many occasions and they have been fine, and, big AND they help to keep the other shops on their toes price wise so we should all be grateful for that.

Well I went and the general feeling was that it was very impressive, brand new building and very tidy with lots of stock available for just about everything you could think of. A good amount of reloading equipment too which is unusall for gunshops around my area (all displayed out on the wall so you could see easily)

Pro's

Massive stock. Everything from decoys/camouflague/reloading equipment/bino's/scopes etc... The biggest plus point was that if you went in there and got chatting they could offer a good discount which i imagine most don't get due to the mailorder aspect. I was offered around 20% off the guns i enquired about :o .

Con's

Almost all of the items didn;t have a price tag on, so you had to keep calling staff over who just read it out of the magazine (hint for next time: take gun mart along). Young lad who was trying to help me didn't know a great deal but he was polite anyhow. One of the guys there was very knowledgable but was keen to give you plenty of sales patter to make your deal seem more attractive (so do some research). Almost all new guns hence premium and little extras (unless you wanted them new too)

Overall impression = good will return someday.

Somehow i managed to leave with a new lightforce 170 /filter and batteries,, so time to hit the rabbits when it stops raining. B)
