lurcherboy
This shoot is nothing short of excellent set in beautifull countryside and rolling landscape. The guns were friendly and I was fortunate enough to a nice Lady next to me on all the drives who advised me how each would operate. The drives are well placed out with the guns coveing 2 to 3 sides of each covert. On the first drive I saw all but one bird go out to the other guns and the bird that come out my side was a Woodcock but unfortunately way too low to raise a gun to. The second drive was perfect. I had 6 birds over me and folded 5 of them. Ben made the retrieves effortlessly and I got that nice warm glow that you get when it all comes together. The third drive was a difficult as I could see the birds over the guns either side of me and though I was tempted, I kept my manners even when the missed them. The fourth drive again was good one but I missed two very high birds by waiting too long to mount the gun. On the fourth drive I found myself with a huge Willow tree that wasn't to be maimed as it was grown for a cricket bat company but luckily the birds had leaked off 3 guns away to my right. The fifth drive was anther bogey as I missed 3 birds cleanly as they came directly over my head (must work on that shot) but did nail a left hander that started to climb after it got behind me. The bag for the day was 39 and I am glad to say the Starlight and myself accounted for 25% of the bag. BTW all birds were shot with 7.5 28 grm rotties. Thanks very much Suffolk Shooter and wife for the opportunity and the food. I reckon next years season will be even better for you. new to the flock
When did you learn to shoot or were they suicidal pheasants that died at the sound? Suffolk shooter
I just have to add that yes he did shoot them and that they were indeed good high birds, so no dolly drop easy ones. A number of guns commented on how polite and well behaved both LB and Starlight32 were and enjoyed their company immensely. If the opportunity arises, both would be welcomed back. Starlight32 had a couple of nice cock birds as a back gun on the 3rd drive and so was good shooting by both. One thing LB, you seemed to have missed a drive, from memory your account of the fifth drive was indeed the sixth, with a similar thing happening on the fifth if I'm not mistaken.
