BSA Shaun
Nope, you can immerse a diesel in water, as long as it can exhale its fine. Wait for it to dry out and crank it

BSA Shaun
Just think of all the 4x4's with snorkels that get immersed weekly - no probs because of snorkel. only reason they cut out is if you get some water up the exhaust, probably what's happened to yours. Have the intercooler off though and drain if necessary, To be honest I'd want the head off too to spray some lube on the bores..no spark plug holes to squirt the wd40 through in a diesel. Or remove the injectors / glow plugs (whichever is easiest to get to), spray in some lube, and turn it over (carefully) with them still out (so it can eject any water nice and easily. lurcherboy
Ignore Shaun. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO START IT. Take the glow plugs out and turn over the engine by hand, slowly, then re-fit them and see if you have bent conrd or not. Good luck. BSA Shaun
thanks guys i will attempt tomorrow with a mechanic if i get throu it i will fit a snorkel on a astra van ? You're not going to need one unless you're going to off road it The purpose of the snorkel is to allow the engine to breath if immersed in water This is a snorkel:
ShaggyRS6
Good luck with mate. Hope it works out. I went out this evening with the boy in the Landy to an area I knew would have rather large deep puddles. The look on my son's face was worth it. We had water comming up like a wave in front of us. Superb. We then went done a few country lanes and showed the normal cars how to navigate fallen branches, i.e. drive over the top of them I LOVE MY LANDY Edited January 15, 2008 by ShaggyRS6

wy111
Continued. Have you got heater plugs, if so, remove or injectors, one or the other. Remove air filter. Probably have to drain fuel tank unless certain no water ingress, if so, new fuel filter, drain tank and new fuel. With everything removed, crank engine to see if water comes out of block. If no water, replace Injectors or heater plugs, new air filter, bleed fuel through and try to start. I'ts very important that no water remains in bores. What's probably happened is that water got into the air intake and the engine "Hydrauliced". Hopefully it won't have done any serious damaged as I presume you wernt going fast
bignoel
i deffinatly was,nt going fast the wife calls me the slug at driveing .the r.a.c man took off air pipe put it in 5 gear and we pushed backwards and i could hear plenty of water as the pushing backwards got easier was he right to do this ? wy111
was he right to do this Wouldn't have thought he would do anything to complicate any damage, they are full trained mechanics. When you say you could hear plenty of water, can you explain?
