Hello guys,

Thought I would just show you all my new dog, bitch really but we love her to bits and I hope one day she will be bringing them tricky birds to find back to my hide when out pigeon shooting.

Sorry about the size but I'm now sure how to shrink them.

She is an English Springer so all of you with the knowledge on these dogs please tell me if you think she is a good one or bad one, I'm not sure but I dont care anyway because she loves my other dog sally and she comes to me already.

Bye for now fellow shooters

FM yoy have it spot on there,

I made the mistake of holding a puppy chew in my hand today while the pup chewed on the other end and guess what....you bet, she sunk her big canine straight up to the hilt, by the ****** hurt and still is.

Sally has also felt her teeth but she is a big softie and seemed to let her off with it. The pup got the message yesterday when she went to eat sallys food before hers. Sally just put her paw on the top of her head and the pup just looked up and went to her food instead.

She has learned how to sit today before getting a treat so she seems to have brains which is a good thing.

By heck she can put some waste through her little body, but she does whine like hell before she takes one.

Mark I see what you mean a bout them being loads of trouble for such a small creature.

FM, do you think I'm doing the wrong thing by letting her in the house, I do want her to work but she must be a family pet aswell, is this possible?

Cheers for the comments guys and I will keep you updated.

I cant see a problem with that... You dont have to keep a working dog outside.

But remember the central heating will affect the natural growth and moult times of the coat. So keep her somewhere cool.

I know many people dont agree that working dogs could be kept indoors or indeed make good pets and that is true of many breeds but not the Springer which is superbly adaptable..

I had a Springer dog when I was 18 which worked its butt off in the field with both me and my Father. It used to sleep in one of two places either next to the Aga in the Kitchen or on the end of my bed! That Dog was spoiled big time. I part trained it before I went to University and it was finished by a professional. It won a total of 4 field trials and was in the top 3 in 4 more. It was equally at home trotting down the high street with my mum and a shopping basket or playing with my younger sister and brother in the back garden.

Its all in the training and the building up of respect.

FM.

Good looking and nicely marked little dog you have there PM.

Your obviously well chuffed with her, look forward to hearing of her progress!

If you keep her in the house make sure she learns the rules and knows where she can and cannot go. Don’t allow her the run of the house! Avoid the wife having her on the sofa feeding treats; this will be the hardest part!:lol::lol:

I keep my dogs kennelled but in the past have had 2 springers that lived inside, only allowed in the kitchen and utility room. Both dogs were great workers and never had any problems with them. As FM says it’s all down to the training.

I believe F.T.Ch Steadroc Sker Winner of the 71st AV Spaniel Championship 2001 was rumoured to be a house dog!

Cheers

I had heard this too.....

and there is a well known Lord near me of a large shooting Estate (Sorry no names) Who treats his three dogs like children. They have the run of the house and can often be found in the Library on the leather chez lounges.

Remember a good dog is not judged by how it looks or its bloodline. Yes they may me desired characteristics, but you want a dog who looks to you and responds to you all the time. Persist with training, then you will know if you have a good dog
