Anyone have any ideas as to which are best to use?. I normally use dead birds shot and frozen from previous outings, but have seen various decoys for the job are they any good?.

A mate said he used some decoys and they where no good birds just went straight passed changed to dead birds and in came the pigeons whats your ideas.

Thanks Rod

You can't beat dead birds, IMHO.

I agree with Cat. Flying decoys on the whirly will draw birds , but dead birds are best. I am not so sure with decoys on the ground. My shell decoys are more visable , but seem to work better when mixed with dead birds. I think the pigeons pick up the shells first and then switch their attention to the dead birds mixed with them. If possible try and use a lofter decoy or two. The pigeons can pick them up from a long way off, but i try and set them in a tree off to one side as if they are over head some birds that would have pitched in with the decoys carry on for the tree fast and by the time you realise they are not going to slow over the ground decoys they are often too close for a shot.

I have tried silosocks and while they seem to stand out to my eye I cant see any difference in the reaction of the pigeons between decoy stands with them or without them.
