turk101
Hi guys I finally have to admit defeat,I have no choice it's come to the dog or divorce stage. SNOOP is as beautiful GSP very active, loving, effectionate but a little bit dominant.I have spent fortunes on training(private)&(residential course). I have posted photo's of SNOOP before but he was very young,I will try & post up to date photo's a.s.a.p As i said this is a very reluctant sale & is going to break my heart. He will make a very good gundog for someone that has more experiance & can train him better,he has all he papers, certs, jabs etc: I am asking for someone that will give him a good home, this is very important to me.I would like to recover a little bit of the fortunes i have spent on him & am asking for £600 including all his equipment, cage, leads, bits & bobs. for more info please email or pm me or phone 07782 304 625. mem (turk101)
remytherussell
Excuse my ignorance but what is a "GSP". We have GPS in the car for finding places but this I dont know. Or is it more "text talk". From the description it just might be one of us. RTR

Lurch
Sell the wife. It'll cost you more in the short term, but it'll be better in the long term.

rkidcj
Hi Turk I can understand your predicament, I have a GSP who is now 14 months, unless your using them continuosly they have a lot of energy to burn. The best bit of advice I was given was to reduce his protein intake. The dried food we were recomended to giving him had a 28% protein value, after dinner he was capable of doing the wall of death around the lounge. And the dog chews etc we gave him for a treat had up to 75% protein. Now he's on a dryed food with a 15% protein value, he's a different dog. I just up his protein when he is working. I hope this bit of advice is received in time to be of help.
turk101
hi rkidcj thanks for the advice, every day i take him out the more chance it's not going to happen he's part of me i dont think i can go through with it.any way what food was recommended to you,i feed him eukanuba dry puppy food.do you think i need to move to adult food oris it to early. the other thing i think they must sense something is up(mad as it may seem)he's been absolutely good as gold these last 4 day's. rkidcj
Hi Turk Sorry that its been a while since I last contacted you. I have been speaking to a friend who says that eukanuba is excellent food but why are you still feeding Snoop puppy food, at 10 month GSP's will be ready for a more adult food. Adult food contains less protein which equals a less hyper active dog. One thing I forgot to mention last time, is that when I first got Spud I took him to the game show at Weston Park. While I was there I notice a rather large heavly tatooed gentleman was taking especial notice of Spud, he came over and said that he organises deer stalking and this breed of dog is the only breed that he would ever use. He has had several and all of them and they all went through stages of disobedience were around 4/7/10 months. Spud followed them to the letter. Just give him patience
Elma Fud
Sorry to hear your news.... It would break my heart if I had to give up a pup that I put so much time and effort into training. Still, your kids come first.
Lurch
Mate, a desperately sad business. My first thought was that perhaps a blackmailing wife should be buried under the patio, but then I noticed something in your initial post that no-one else seems to have picked up on. You say he is a bit dominant, does this mean he has been showing aggression to the missus? That would explain your problem if so. No doubt there are wiser sages than I, but I would suggest: Knackers off (Snoops, not yours) Kennel All dogs will try out being the dominant male, generally it is the lower members of the pack that the dog will attempt to usurp first. Knackers off will cut off (literally!) supply of testosterone, lets be honest you may harbour dreams of making him a stud but realistically - 'tint gonna happen. Kenneling will underline the fact that he is the dog and the two legs are the gaffa's.

Browning
Turk, Great news to hear you're going to persevere ! I have 2 GSP's, and they're not the easiest of dogs to train, but in my mind they are definitely worth the extra time, effort and patience it takes, and I love 'em to bits. Try doing a search on some of the past posts by NTTF and MadSpringer, there's a hell of a lot of good sound advice based on years of experience. Good luck !
