deny essex
Decoying on rape today , was quiet, but guess my plastics fooled this Kestrel or maybe confused him, tried to tear the heads off of 4 of them in turn, bounced from decoy to decoy trying to get their heads off for about 5 minutes, the decoys are the flexible rubber shell type so was real amusing to see him standing on them and stretching them about , who says plastics are no good Apologies for the quality of pics but me needs a new camera for close ups. JohnGalway
Lovely stuff Deny Last year I was using plastic hoodie decoys to lure some into bait. The decoy was cable tied to a high fence post, I had hoodies and ravens roaring at it and actually jumping on it to shift him off the prime position, it was very hard to keep quiet I was laughing so much. Teal
Are you sure it was a kestrel? Thanks for sharing the photos, they aren't that clear but looks to me like it could be a peregrine or female spar?

Not unusual for this time of year on rape greenflash, i saw about a thousand birds yesterday but they didnt wanna play, ended u wth 4, but enjoyed the day the bird of prey is one of the bonuses that pop up now and again to add to the enjoyment
greenflash
Yeah I was on rape and saw birds flying but just didnt want to come in to the pattern, ended up with two. Dont get me wrong, just being there is great but with some of these stories you read it just sounds so easy!
Cosd
nice pics denny. What camera did you use? I bought 1 not so long ago, it's a compact not an SLR, but probably the best zoom you will get on any compact, 10 X optical, and takes some lovely pics. More details if you are ineterested..... deny essex
iT DONT MATTER WHAT IT IS THEY ARE GREAT PICS and that would have made my day anyway lol I bet you were killing yourself laughing I was winchester didnt think it would stay around long enough for for me to get the camera unpacked and running while i was laughing, the one weekend in two i didnt take the camcorder would have made a great vid will teach me to keep takeing it, had so many memorable bits with animals and birds whilst out shooting, part of the attraction for me , many are "had to been there and seen it" to appreciate the fun and enjoyment of a moment. A friend and my self in a hide watching a young fox enter the field with a rabbit in his mouth, spotted the decoys and gently lowered the rabbit down and stalked right up to the decoys, stopped stared at them and we were so cracked up with laughter he heared us and shot off through a hedrow forgetting his rabbit, 2 seconds later he must have remember'd it and crashed back through the hedgerow picked his rabbit up and off like a bolt of lightening, we couldnt have shot a pigeon for 30 minutes if it landed on our barrels we were laughing so much. Thanks cos, was an olympus compact, only 4meg and 3 times optical, not high enough for the type of shot i needed on the bird but does stand some beating around in the bag

Quickshot
Had a sparrow hawk come and attack my magnet the other day! It swooped down from over the hide and smashed into it! Took the Foam Wing which was tied on, clean off! dropped it in the middle of the field so i had to trapse over and grab it! QS
