MORROCCO

I saw a Lonely Planet progranne the other day. They were in Morocco and said most of the tourists go to Marakesh but the best place to go it Fez. Less tourists, nice and safe and you get to see the real Morocco.

There was a place where they tan all of the local leather where people stand in vats of dye and **** and stamp on the hides. Not really a traditional tourist attraction but something you will see nowhere else in the world. They have been doing it like that the same was for hundreds of years.

nice and safe explain

Many African resort areas ( plus some other touristy places around the world, London for example :good: ) have their fair share of pick pockets, petty thieves, conmen and the like.

The souks and other areas where lots of groups gather are places you have to be careful in.

The beggars can also be a nuisance, you have to completely ignore them.

Col S10, I was there in June last year. Fascinating place.

I recommend the coastal town of Essouira (formerly Mogador) as a great place to break from the hassle of Marrakech. Lovely fresh seafood too.

You need a cool head and a firm hand in the markets, as you are likely to be hassled a lot. It's all part of the experience.

Regards,

Never been there but saw programmes about Marrakech and the food looked amazing in the big square of an evening.I have eaten street food all over the place and it is so fresh there is little risk of bad guts.Would like to go one day. Enjoy yrself.Do they speak French?

ps just checked, its Arabic, usually worth learning a bit to be polite.Goes down very well usually. In my travelling days I never went anywhere without Lonely Planet or Rough Guide. Essential kit as it gives info on where to go,language, where to avoid, phone numbers etc etc.
