vole
I live near the River Bollin and thanks to our rod licences it now holds a good head of chub and trout etc. I used to take my little girl to fish a stretch near me and a few others enjoy an hour quiver tipping or fly fishing. My club stretch is 10 miles away and not safe for kids. There are alot of wealthy people whose mansions back onto the meadow where the river is so am suspicious they have been pulling strings or something. I think it is mean minded and stupid to stop some local kids and families having something healthy to do locally that doesnt cost a fortune. I have asked the council and cant get a straight answer. I have emailed Martin Salter MP too.

webber
Do the signs say No Fishing, by order of ??B) or just no fishing? webber
vole
They have a council logo on the bottom ,simply "No Fishing".When I phoned them I got transferred from one dept to another and gave up.Somebody there sent out someone to post the signs for some reason. Maybe the Spoilsport Political Correctness Dept.I do suspect some of the gentry who I have had the odd "discussion" with. They were ok when they discovered I had fished some of the more far afield places that they had and carried a Sage fly rod. I think its more the poor guy who turns up in an old Escort with a car boot quiver tip and the kids they dont want there.
lurcherboy
Riparian rights I think it's called. We have an excellent chalk stream from Ashford to Canterbury and 90% of the properties bordering it have the rights on their deeds. I may be wrong and would like to add that I ignore the signs. vole
Cheers fellers, the houses dont actually back onto the river, just onto the big meadow where the river runs.I think the riparian owner is the council and I gather that all over the country common land is being denied to folks wanting to pursue a bit of fishing.Tight Lines with Keith Arthur mentions it alot. Will see if I get a response from my barrage of emails. Paul in North Lincs.
I'm sure that some mindless vandal will knock down and destroy the sign shortly anyway
MC
Are you sure they are from the council? I fly model aircraft on the local playing field near me occasionally and the local busybody has used the council logo but made up signs for himself on a PC. I phoned the council about it and they no nothing about it. I would get back on to the council and find out, if they didn't put them there then go and remove them Or do as LB does and ignore them. jimdfish
dig 'em up and hoik them in a bush. Or completely ignore them and if approached speak the Polish. The chances of anyone enforcing the ban are V.slim. If it was an Albert water you might have problems but the local council will not enforce.
