Big_Sam
Ok have to admit I am still a little puzzled by what I am supposed or not supposed to do.... When you buy a shotgun from an RFD, they fill in the form to let the police know. But do you do anything at all, or nothing? Cheers, Sam

The Great Cornholio
When I bought my gun from a RFD, he filled in my certificate by hand. But, as if by magic, his computer printed out two letters. One was from himself to whoever, the other was from me to my local licensing office. He also sent both letters to save me the trouble. I can only assume this is correct procedure. Can't see a RFD breaking the rules.
AdamC
Some RFDs will do it all for you. When I bought mine, the lady filled in my form and sent it off for me. The shop had a big pile of forms they sent to the Thames Valley Police Force. She said when she leaves it to guys to do, they normally forget it, so did it all for me. Big_Sam
Well he certainly had plenty of forms there! I am sending off one just to make sure, dont want to annoy the firearms dept with my first purchase!
garyb
It is your responsibility to notify the Firearms dept in writing. I wouldn't leave it to anyone else, and would always send my own recorded letter.
al4x
I think its the kind of antiquated procedure whereby two copies ensures one gets there I don't think you even need to use registered post as after all the police don't to send out tickets or speeding fines etc. Some FEO's now let you use e-mail which is by far the simplest as long as you ask them to acknowledge receipt. Big_Sam
Well I posted off this one recorded as it is the first one, but they have an email address on their website it says you can use.
Dr W
I didn't use recorded post, I simply rang up the firearms team and asked if they had received my letter, which they confirmed.
