Mrs Sweepy
right i am now sitting here with a face like a prune. if i carry on with this shooting, hunting and gathering .pastime . am going to end up looking older then my dear old granny. anyway enough of my vanity. PIGEON SHOOTING well to start of with i over slept. but lucky for me sweepy and little sweepy were on the ball . so at 7.30 they left me in bed . and of they went to set up the hide and decoys . i manage to drag myself out of bed eventually. got my number two son out of bed . and fed the dogs . then it was straight into the car and abandon said son . at the home of those very nice people that have the pleasure of calling me their daughter (dont you just feel for them ) anyway after a cup of tea and a good old chat .which consist of them telling me 1,about time i got my hair cut.and my roots were showing. 2,had i put on weight since christmas 3,did i remember to do my road tax. and 4 their all time favourite. which is.what wonderful son in law sweepy is . and i should think myself lucky that i have him . on that note i made my escape . and headed off to the farm . now for the last few days sweepy has been watching the fields to see where the birds were feeding . unfortunateywhen he told the farmer of his plans yesterday he was inform that the farmer had told a mate of his that he could shoot on that bit of field today . so sweepy had to find somewhere else to go . so he headed of to wet woods (this is the woods that when i was beating i got stuck in the peat bog ). he pitch hes hide up on the ditch to the woods so we were concealed by the woods behind him. and i must admit when i first got there if it was not for little sweepy coming to get me . i would never have guess were the hide was . once i was in the hide my first job was to pour the coffee. and little sweepy was full of of chatter about the bird he had just shot. that boy could chat for england . i just dont know were he gets it from . so sweepy decided it was time for little sweepy to go and get a few birds up . so of he went . it was not long before we heard a few shots ringing though the air . and you could see the birds up in the sky . but none would come are way . so we got talking , ok i started to moan about my seat . now please will someone explain to me how on earth do you sit on one of those stick seats. on a bank of a ditch without falling **** over *** into the ditch . sweepy did try to show me .as the first lot of pigeons can over .(sorry sweepy) after he had forgiven me . and we were once again talking to each other . we had some high birds come over .so me being me i ask why he had not even bothered with them . so sweepy explain that they were to high and he did not have a hope in hell of hitting them . well this got me to thinking at what range he would be able to hit percy pigeon . so we spent the next 5 mins with sweepy telling me what he could and could not hit . as he was explaining a high bird came over . so he put hes shotgun up to show me that it was to high.(as i was being a bit thick about it all ) well he pulled the trigger . and mr pigeon drop like a lead balloon . poor sweepy just sat there in disbeleve . while i laugh so much i nearly fall of my stick seat and into the stream . to which sweepy imform me that if he wanted to he could bury me in the stream and no one would find my body . that this point little sweepy return . to imform us that most of the pigeons were feeding on the field that sweepy had wanted to go on in the first place . and the mate of the farmers had not turn up . little sweepy had seen the farmer and he was not a happy man . it was now getting onto about 3oclock . so sweepy decided that he had enough .the birds were not coming over . so the best thing we could do was to pack up . and he and little sweepy would do a walk about and see what came their way . so we pack up all the stuff . and i headed back to my car . i may have not had a shot today but i still enjoyed my day out with them both . so be warned sweepy next time you go pigeon shooting guess whos coming with you again . and even then if we dont shoot anything .at least i might have master the skill of sitting on one of those *****y stick seats . xxxxsuzy

I too sat out all day yesterday to shoot one bird, and I agree about the looking like a prune bit - I was looking a bit wind swept when I finally decided to call it a day
Cranfield
What you experienced Mrs S is quite a common days "pigeon shooting" for most of us, not all the tales are of 100 plus days. I have tried many things to sit on when in a hide and I have one of those small drum things with the swivel seat/lid which are excellent..................on level ground. So, 90% of the time I also use the adaptable and flexible shooting stick, you eventually get use to the numb areas of your nether regions. A five gallon oil drum with your bag on it is favourite, leave it in the hide.
