MC
I will see you there about 8ish. Are you supplying the cartridges for this one?
Bagsy
8ish, I've heard he doesn't slow down for roundabouts but that's quick!
Catamong
Bring your thermals and brollies, it's going to be cold and possibly wet too, it's a pretty exposed ground, particularly down the bottom end , still you'll zip round if you get there early. Don't forget to post those scores, (good or bad). Cat.
MC
Bagsy, I have been in munglers car, Which is why I'm meeting you there  Cat, No worries about posting the scores, I just hope I don't end up with that hat on Cheers Martin
Mungler
Bagsy, if you and Dell want to get to mine for 7 a.m. we can go up together. Might be a squeeze as we have to get Evil Elvis in. I might see if I can use the missus' car.

Catamong
Some tips for the Essex hopefuls that have not shot this ground before: Expect to find 10 stands of 10 birds, Mike Frankham is a "manyana" man, with ground improvements and extra stands all happening "tomorrow", so generally speaking nothing much changes there, although he does seem to get a good turn out at most shoots.. Start on stand 1, which is usually in the thicket on the left of the access road as you come in, he tends to put on an "easy" pair of teal / quartering birds here, and it can be a good confidence builder to get off to a good start. There is likely to be a R/L longish crosser off the tower on stand 5 or 6, this bird always needs more lead than it appears, and is frequently dropping as well, so if you miss the first one, give the second a bit more lead. He will often throw a "bumble bee" style Mini crosser, these come off the trap arm very fast but die very quickly, so be careful you don't miss in front. There is often a L/R longish battue halfway down the open field towards the bottom end, again, it does need a bit, and with a Northerly wind forecast, it will be steaming along. Expect a very close crossing rabbit up against the railway embankment at the bottom end, don't be too hasty on this type of target, you've often got more time than you think on these, and be careful you don't over lead it, also use the most open choke you have. There is always a pair of orange crossers up against the railway embankment, stand 9 or 10, usually one will be a lot quicker than the other, so make sure you read the speed of each bird carefully, and adjust your lead accordingly. Good luck on the day, all of the above may be a complete crock of sh.....you know what if he does change the layout, but hopefully it may be of some use. Cat. MC
Great, Just the sort of shoots I like. Bring plenty of money with you all, the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance have just sent me a load of raffle tickets to sell on their behalf. Top prize is 2 grand. Mungler
Del has just phoned in to give it a swerve given the weather forecast for tomorrow. Can't blame him given he would have to bike it from London to mine just to get a lift to Barrow Lodge. I will take a look outside the window tomorrow morning at 6.30 a.m. and if it's snowing then there's a very good chance I will blow it out and do 3 Acres instead. I will give all concerned a buzz so keep the mobiles on.
MC
You jessie, If it's snowing it's snowing. It will be the same at 3 acres as it will be at Barrow heath. I was thinking about doing the Young farmers shoot at Stowlangtoft as well afterwards. Or rather I won't because it was today Edited March 22, 2008 by martincavie
Suffolk shooter
I would say that Stowlangtoft shoot would have been a quaigmire, shoot it every year for the last four or five and this is the first year I have missed. Trouble is it is in an old lime pit, so when it gets wet, it sticks to everything. Whats the matter with the weather, what you have to remember is that it will be the same for everyone, and lets face it if you want to shoot for the county then you can'rt just suddenly pull out at the last minute, because the weather is a bit dodgy. Mungler
I don't want to shoot for the County - too many miles to travel and too many weekends eaten away. I want to see how many people who shoot for the County I can beat Scott Greenfield (who would appear to be suffering a massive loss of form) only shot 6 more than me at High Lodge (for example). He'll be having a few paddys, then  Saw him in a comp at Worsley a year or so back, he was doing alright till he got to a stand with 2 fast, low driven birds and he couldn't hit them. Lost it big style, blaming the course setter, the club, everything - ******** this and ******* that, abused the referee. Screwed his card completely. Funny thing was, we all straight that stand, it's like shelling peas. It's you Essex boys, you just can't hack it :yp:
Bagsy
Mung, I'm still up for either Suffolk or Three Acres, just shout when you know what you're doing. Been working today and need to blast some clays! Will stroke the gun lovingly tonight
Mungler
Well, we left at 7 a.m in clear skies and arrived to shoot in a blizzard. I think bazza was in the 60's and Martin and Bagsy 71 and 72 respectively and me with 77/100. A good round and a good laugh with some good shooting. Looking forward to Lakenheath and fairer weather
Bagsy
A top shoot and given the blizzard we shot in I was well chuffed with my score. Will be interesting to see the scores of the big boys who were about to shoot as we left (with no wind or snow falling the conditions at that point were near perfect). Cheers for the lift up there Mung, much appreciated. Bazza removed his pants on one of the stands by giving them a quick tug  I missed it thankfully but Martins face was a picture I won't forget Cheers guys
MC
I'll echo what Bagsy has said, it was a good shoot despite the conditions which were near blizzard at times. Overall I was pleased with my score and had it have been a decent day I think we all would have been 6-8 birds higher. There was nothing realing challenging there and I don't think any of us blanked a bird on any stand. High gun when we left was 89 so overall none of our scores were shabby at all. I would have thought that AA shooters would have put in a lot higher than that. The Bazza removing his pants episode will haunt me for years.

I think that was his main gripe, the stand was a lot harder for short people..!! Yes, he did lose his cool a bit, and that's the best way to wreck your card. Well done to the Essex boys at Barrow, by the sounds of it you all put in respectable scores, despite the weather. Cat. MC
The other thing that made my day today was watching a guy with an Essex Team badge miss the last pair on a stand, which Mungler and myself then straighted. It just goes to show that noone is invincible. Just how much lead did those battues need?
Markio
Excellent scores everyone! Sounds like you had a good day and given the weather i'd say it was a right result. Shot 25 only on Saturday with Martin and nearly died. (yea yeah, poofta) The memorable moment being trying to hook the barrel selector with a nail as my crab hands had seized up.
