Cosd
Had my eye on two farms I pass every day to and from work, built up the courage to go in and ask if there was any chance of any vermin control (12g shottie), and both have groups of people and are full. Gutted as 1 of them gets absolutly hammered with crows every day, they are in flocks of 100 - 200 at any time. Got to keep trying though 'cos current farm is a 120 mile round trip...! bob300w
Try asking for specific days, i.e. when the other guns are not about, one day at a time, rather than an open permission. Farmers being farmers will get bored with you knocking at their door asking for one day at a time and give you full permission! Ok, so it doesn't work every time, but it's worth a try, and it has worked for me in the past. You are far more likely to get the odd agreed day than full permo. You know it makes sense! Edit; If you have any skills, mechanic, welder etc, offer to muck in and help out with repairs, there is always something that needs repairing on a farm. Remember that the farmer is doing you a favour by letting you shoot, you are not doing him one in his eyes. Fixing and DIY are my fortes. It's something I suppose, but a day at a time sounds good and I didn't think of that. I can go back to 1 of the farms as I didn't get the answer from the farmer himself; But I lost my chance of selling myself on the other one I think. Suffolk shooter
Don't give up and make sure to go back again in a few months time. Before hand scan the farmland and see if there is a real pest problem such as the rooks you mentioned on one. That way when you approach the farmer, you can say "I've noticed that So and so field seems to have a lot of rooks on it all the time, would it be possible to have a days shooting at them". Make sure you dress smart but casual, when you approach them and leave a card with contact details even if they refuse you, as you never know when they may ring you if they feel the others aren't doing the job or are a bunch of cowboys. All the best. SS
2shots
My mates an electrician and pins his business card to his wanted letters he only started shooting 9 month ago and has about 30,000 acres he only charges the farmers for materials no labour, and it just keeps coming. jammy b. dustyfox
Remember that the farmer is doing you a favour by letting you shoot, you are not doing him one in his eyes. How you not doing the farmer a favour your reducing the amount of Crops being damages by pigeons.

Better to do something for them as well if possible then the farmer see's it as a real bonus.
HeadShotHoncho
Yep they can really not believe that protecting their crops is a favour, if some people pay for permissions then some farmers should pay us for cartridges (never going to happen) HSH
