glamour
The way things are looking it seems the NPPC is possibly the best option available to me. I don't have the experience for me to be comfortable shooting on someones land alone, i could be doing so much wrong. I live in the east midlands and traveling isn't really a problem. I'm a keen responsable lad and i'm dying to get out in the countryside more. I've done bits of shooting since i was a kid, but not enough to class it as a hobby, i've walked and camped and done as much outdoors as possible. Is anyone a member of the nppc in the nottingham/derbyshire area thats willing to show me the ropes? Is it hard to "book" shooting time due to a high demand? I'll gladly apply today if someone can give me a guide, or if i could tag along with a few lads off here. Id like to go out as much as possible then hopefully apply for my airrifle fac. I know this is a lot to ask in such a tight knit community but it was worth a try. For someone like me with limited options £125 plus insurance seems well worth it. many thanks chris

glamour
Country boy explained to me earlier that a shotgun certificate would be required to join the nppc, so that's kinda wee'd on my chips really. I've never planned on wanting shotguns or a licence so I'm back to square one.
paul1966
you might be best to apply for a sgc first as they are relatively easy to get, then apply for a fac later. i think you are more likely to get a fac if you already have a sgc. more experienced advice will be along shortly. glamour
Will they have to see a fitted safe to issue the certificate? Even though i'm not planning on getting a gun? Edited April 8, 2008 by glamour
fortune82
Yes they would, theyre pretty cheap and easy to fit though. I dont think you need an SGC to join NPPC though.

glamour
I've just applied to the basc on the websitefor air rifle use, once you've finished the online forms and received an email with your info on is that it?? Or will i be expecting and insurance cert through the post along with other relevant info? Sorry for all the questions, it's just the stuff like that is never said on the sites (or its too hard to find). I hope i can join with just the intention of using air rifles. As said earlier, anyone willing to take me would be much appreciated. Next stop hopfully nppc! chris EDIT******* This is from the nppc site "Membership is open to UK Shotgun Certificate Holders (under 18s must be accompanied by an adult member). All applicants must have Third Party & Public Liability Insurance (membership of any of the Shooting Sports Bodies). We recommend membership of The British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC)." ********** Confusionnnnnnn Edited April 8, 2008 by glamour

beatingisbest
A shotgun really is the best way to go for all sporting quarry except deer. Ideal for pigeons which is the main quarry species that the NPPC pursue. Why dont you want to get one? They are much safer IMO than fac rifles for the beginner aslong as you have someone who knows what they are doing with you the first few times you shoot and show you the ropes. glamour
I havn't really got anywhere to put a gun safe. I'm also not too keen on having a shotgun in the house. They don't really interest me at the moment, but maybe in the future i don't know. chris
