remytherussell
Met our mate **** in the pub on Friday. What you doing Saturday he asks. Got to do a bit of shopping 1st thing says he. Well a farmer recons he,s got a field full of pigeons, do you want to go down. Oh yes says he. Can get there by 10.00. I,m working till 12.00 says **** and I,ll come down then. Drove to field, just north of Hartley Wintney. Pulled over at gate to get a feel for how things look. Up they went BLUE, hundreds, and a lot of black also. Evidently farmer had havested some flat barley and a lot of grain was left on the ground. Drove up to top of field to set up against a round bale. The pigeons were actually landing around us while setting up. Doing to be a BIG DAY methinks. Hardly needed the deaks or whirler, Shot 6 in as many minutes. So put these on cradles. Killed steadily all morning but needed another gun. **** arrived 1.00pm and set up his hide & whirler. (Home made kit, 8ft arms, goes round about 30 mph.) Put out more cradles, nice big spead with good-size space in the middle. Hides facing into the wind, down the valley. About 1.30 they started coming from all directions not just into the wind. So many good birds that they could choose to leave the close-ups and landers. Both killed some exceptional high fast birds. Kept on till 5.30 when **** had to go. Packed up and picked up. (Birds still landing whilst we walked about!!. Total count, 155 + 9 blacks. Off to pub, pleased but knackered. RTR. Pigeonwatch News, North Hampshire. Lurch
Well I wasn't worried about drinks at the pub, could see a dog with his own bowl behind the bar. Remy, when I'm talking with a dog over the internet - I pretty much assume my sanity is gone.....

remytherussell
JUst got a call from a keeper mate who,s spooted big numbers on stubble a couple of miles from where we were Saturday. Off at 12.00 to see what we can get. Try to remember the camera this time. RTR, Pigeonwatch News. North Hampshire.
apbuild
PM, I was thumbing my old copies of Sporing gun the other day. September 2002, I caught a familiar ugly mug on the pigeon pages. It was a guy called Tom who shoots clays with us regularly. He shot 239 over a pea-field with two of his mates. He won £15 and a video.
remytherussell
What a difference a few days make!! Yesterday did same field as Saturday. Very few feeding on arrival. Set up, took one within 5 minutes, then shot (@) about one every 15 mins. Quite a few passing through but not interested in decoys or rotor. Tried taking rotor in, changing patterns, all to no avail. Took 6 in 3 hours......waste of an afternoon. They had obviously stripped all the feed. Have to go on a recce for the weekend. RTR. Pigeonwatch News. North Hampshire. Fisherman Mike
No... Plenty of birds about mate... They saw you... If there is anything pigeons like less than a cantancerous old Jack Russell its one with a 12 Gauge.
