DaveK
I have one of the Aldi special electric sharpeners with rough and smooth stones. I also have a 99p hand sharpening thing that you hold and pull the knife through. They both sharpen knives for normal use but not well enough to easily cut into rabbits or deer with the ease that others I've seen. Any recommendations? glamour
I saw a three part video yesterday on youtube of ray mears showing knife sharpening techniques that were really good. He uses the usual water stones soaked in a bucket of water in a specific way, then the strop... and to finish something i'd never seen. He wound the window down on his 4x4 and lightly ran the edge against the top edge of the window where its polished. He also cleverly carrys 4 nails with a small stone which he taps into a log to hold the stone in place while honing. I know he can be a bit annoying sometimes but it was good to see it in practice. Worth a watch. Here are the vids in order. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQN4jcXDjbE...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0a2Jm3pkXqk...feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aBEdi-xH3U...feature=related chris
