Jus
I've recently moved to Gloucestershire (Brockworth area) and just put in for my FAC and SGC (target shooting and clays). Am I in for a long wait at the moment ? Also, anyone recommend / belong a good friendly clay shooting club ? I know there are a few around here but any one with first-hand experience ? Cheers

Emmsy
Hi, im gloucester but mainly only shoot registered competitions. cotswold clay club aint too bad at farmington quarry. the ground at stoke orchard used to be ok but i havent been for a few years. i personally prefer to travel the extra distance to throckmorton near pershore for practice. they have 60 sporting, skeet and dtl/abt and is reasonably priced with a good crowd of people. ive been going there a bit recently as im teaching the girlfriend to shoot. njc110381
I'm in Gloucester too. I shoot skeet at Gloucester clay shooting club, which is on the Tewkesbury road in a village called Norton. That's a really friendly place and they offered me a lot of help when I started shooting. If you don't want to shoot skeet then go with what Emmsy says. From what I can make of it he's a pretty good and experienced shot, so can probably offer better advice than me on other local clubs
Emmsy
sorry yep there is the skeet club at gloucester. only any good for skeet funily enough so it all depends what you want to shoot. skeet is a good starting point for sporting as you get to shoot most angles and its allways consistant. Spaniel
Pop along to your local Gun shop and ask them, they are bound to know of clubs etc you can join. I dont belong to a club but just go to local clay shoots as i enjoy the sporting targets, not into Down the Drain (Line) etc . I bet there are a few about in your area Cheers
Emmsy
nope, not really many gunshops about round here, and the ones that are about are as much use as a paper fireguard.
Spaniel
Might be worth popping into or calling Litts in Newport, they may have some idea of a shooting club in the area. There is always Mendip shooting Ground where i think you can have lessons etc, Cheers

petethegeek
there is a clay shoot just out of upton on seven south worscter ithink its called. I believe the one you are referring to is the South Worcester Shooting Ground - nice friendly place and not too far from Gloucester.

Jus
Cheers guys, it would seem I'm spoilt for choice. I think skeet would be a good start for me to learn some fundamentals.
barrie0
Jus, I would recommend Cotswold Clay Club, I tried the club at Stoke Orchard and Ian Coleys shooting ground just outside of Cheltenham. Out of the three C.C.Club was the friendliest, people speak to you, no one cares how many you hit/miss and if you do not have your shotgun certificate you can use their club guns if you become a member. Met some nice people at the club, I have not been there for 10-11 months as I had to have a back operation, but am tempted to start the clays again. if you fancy going up there give me a PM sometime. http://www.cotswoldcc.co.uk/

Fisherman Mike
nope, not really many gunshops about round here, and the ones that are about are as much use as a paper fireguard. Ive got a paper fire guard and its pretty damn good. Try Ian Coley Of Cheltenham, All Sports of Gloucester, Mark Hazells Gunroom at Wooton Under Edge, Cotswood at Lechlade, or Cotswold Shooting at Cirencester (ask for Alastair). Ive used them all and have never had anything but excellent service from all. FM.
Jus
Just been to Allsports.... no Beretta's in the shop at all. Tried to sell me a Blazer F3 for £1995 though, very nice gun considering £4k new but just not what I'm after. Just seeing what's around at the moment though. Dangermouse
For the gun try www.ukgunroom.com as it lists loads of guns (more or less any type) new and 2nd hand and you can even set how much you want to pay and what distance you want to travel etc! For the shooting www.bristolclayshooting.com are a friendly lot and there is a shoot every weekend with a free tea/coffe and a bacon sarnie thrown in!!! njc110381
Mark Hazels is my choice locally. Allsports are picky with what makes they sell and don't do gun transfers. Coaleys are a little expensive. Don't get me started on Cotswold shooting company! I've never had any first hand trouble with them, but a good mate of mine has told me some nasty stories so I stopped going there for guns
Jus
I've picked up a secondhand Beretta 682 Gold without the E - ie. it has the flush multichokes but won't take the extended ones - got it from R&B Sporting in Ross on Wye (not too far away). Also picked up some carts from Mark Hazel as it's on the way home from Bristol, just off the M5 and he's open until 7pm on Friday's.... Dirty Harry
Greensleeves range at Stoke Orchard is 100yards and opposite is a clay club but i'm not sure of the club name. They are both open on Sunday mornings so might be worth a look. Bredon Hill Shooting stock Baretta and most other stuff. Prices are not to bad but it's worth ringing before you visit to make sure they are open. Harry
Yonic
Alistair isn't at Cotswold anymore he left about 9 months ago. He works for Gun trader now. I used to work at Cotswold just on Saturday up to about 2 1/2 years ago. you would find out more information form other places, you may get a lot here but don't believe that much of it. On the clay shoot front you also have Hollow fosse which is just outside Cirencester on the stow road and another that has recently started up behind countrywide and the cattle market.
