What you are doing, I and several people that I shoot with have been doing successfully for many years.
InGen
you genetically programed for what hand you are from birth it would extremely hard to shoot well with you left hand if you right handed if you are luck and born ambidextrous then it will be easy to shoot left handed if not and you try left handed you will fail but it will be a good laugh lol. viking
cheers bob, but what about DTL, i only have my right eye open, should i try doing what i do when shooting sporting, i dont do to bad at DTL as i average about 60-65/75 but need to be nailing the 3 or 4 that get away, and for some reason im poor with the second barel, cheers, Lee

I do the same for all disciplines. The problem usually with second barrels is that you are thinking about lead etc. rather than shooting naturally. In your position, I would have an hour with a coach, I have seen it work wonders with people, sometimes we just need to be told the obvious. Best of luck. the last engineer
sorry to disaree with the above guys on "stick with what you have been born with", start now change over and shoot properly, i'm a lefty who learnt to shoot right handed, not throught eye dominance but because i screwed up my arm for a year, i shoot master class as a lefty, have done for a number of years, i shoot right handed to around 80% plus in sporting and more in skeet, 5 stand and trap, the thing is its practice and muscle memory, the more you do the more you can do. i personaly know a few guys who being right-handed and left eye dom have changed with somewhat success , one 8x canadian champ among other titles. if what ingen said is true then i'm full of it, take a chance and proove em wrong do it i did, my arm is good and i shoot left, but i'll take guys on left for the hell of it, you should see the squad on a skeet field when i go half way lefty and the other half righty, well screwed up. Viking dont be put off by those who cant do it, or wont for fear of failing, christ half these guys still think the border to essex is the edge of the world go for it my son, show em Martin

Baldrick
I'm naturally right-handed, but I have a dominant left eye. I had to learn to shoot off my left shoulder when I was young, and that's worked very well ever since. I then had to lre-learn to shoot off my right shoulder when I was in the Forces. Rifles and pistols I am virtually ambidextrous with now. Shotguns are the tool that require the muscle memory and regular practice if I want to shoot off the wrong shoulder. I know several people who shoot successfully wearing an eye patch. I reckon a patch is a better alternative to closing one eye at the final instance before the shot. A good coach would be worth talking to.
ferrodo
Baldrick, I suffer the same as you with being right handed and left eyed. I tried everything but always ended up closing my left eye until I bought an "easyhit" sight. Do they work?...well all I can tell you is that now I don't look at the sight I only concentrate on the bird and I shoot with both eyes open after fourty years of closing the left. Yeah I think they work great...at least for me. Try one what have you got to lose. F
Baldrick
Sorry, Ferrodo, my post above wasn't terribly clear. I do everything right-handed, except shooting. As I learned to exploit my dominant left eye and shoot off my left shoulder before I ever tried shooting right-handed, I've never suffered. I don't even think about it now, except when I need to shoot right-handed (e.g., off a wing mirror, or when using an SA80). A friend uses an Easy Hit sight, and found that it worked wonders.
