tikkamark
I decided it was a lovely day for a wander around with the hmr today so whipped it out of the safe had a look out the window and what do i see a grey crow perched on top of a fence post in the field across from my house with a nice backstop so i sneaked up to the hedge and rested the gun on it settled on the crow and squeezed...........SPISHH..THUD the little 17gr pill folded him and at 125yrds it was a nice shot too that was a good start My plan for the evening was to go round land out at my mates grannies with the .17 i got out there at 6.30pm and set off not seeing much at first but its hilly country so you never know what you might come across as i came over one rise in a silage field i saw a grey crow flying low mocking something on the ground i looked through the scope to see a fox trotting across the field heading my way a hedge separated the field it was in to the field i was in you can see the hedge in the pic i settled down on the bipods and waited.....about 10 minutes later he came through the hedge into my field and trotted towards me he looked a magnificent fox through the scope he lazily walked towards me he did not see me at all so i had to give a whistle to make him stop as i did this the look on the foxes face was amazing it was as if he knew his time was up i settled the x between his eyes and squeezed dropping the fox without a twitch. On closer inspection it was a really old fox with just one long tooth the rest were gone and he had a really rough coat and a slight touch of mange on his tail id say this fox avoided many a light and terrier in his time I seen two more foxes later in the evening but they were a bit far so a trip in there another evening with the .223 is due :yp: I got lost in a big conifer plantation on the way back to the car and didn't get back till 10.45 totally knackered, but it was worth it

grasshopper
Nice shot Mark Them hills look familiar,is that where Paul "eventually" shot a fox ? Keep thinking about a .17,tried Magmans the other week when he was up this way, plenty of range on them, but the noise and lack of consistency on the groups put me off. Sticking with my .22`s for now,but because i haven,t got 1,i,ll probably have to have 1,even if it`s just to give it a fair try out besides next change is gonna be the Escort for an Extrema...your a bad influence Jeff

Sorry for being a bad influence But you wont go wrong with an extrema

Off out myself in a while if I can rise myself out of the house, terminal laziness has set in at weekends No bogholes, rushes or rocks i dont know how we survive over here without such landmarks Terminal laziness is hard to fight sometimes but it has to be done you wont nail any maggers greys or foxes sitting at home Did you get your new camera yet john?I took them pics with my new camera phone it has a 3.2mp sony cyber shot camera built in with flash and all its a great job

JohnGalway
Urgh, camera. Long story short, promises were made but not fulfilled by seller no.1 so I cancelled that. Seller no.2 says camera no.2 two is on the way. I am patiently holding my breath. Got a nice little something else on the way also, but that's for another day I didn't get out this evening, too much to do here! Next weekend will have to be better, or I'll have forgotten what a bloody rifle looks like I have been watching some Ozzie hunting dvd's on and off, getting bad ideas about a lighter more pointable rifle... Must resist... Speaking of greycrows, new tactic is to put out mackerel wrapped in chicken wire a few days ahead of when I got out, pinned down by some rebar (we have tough vermin over here, must be the ruches, rocks, bogholes etc. ). tikkamark
Heres a pic of the pair the dog fox really was a prime fox with a lovely coat you can see how much bigger than the vixen he is and the vixen was far from small the pic is a bit blurry because it was getting very dull and i didnt have the phone set to twilight mode. The pic of the rifle is taken just a few fields from where i got the foxes you can see the silage field in the distance where i got the fox with the hmr. Only saw a fawn coloured badger but I have a feeling it's a nice quiet spot for foxes.... ...well I hope Lovely spot either way :(

Best of luck on the new ground john hopefully you can get out for a scout with the remmie some night Edited June 10, 2008 by tikkamark
