dodeer
After a new .243 to replace my Tikka T3 which i don't like. Want a heavy varmint type barrel this time which i'l stick a PES mod on and a nightforce 8-32x56. Going to use it for a lot of foxes and roe. Got my 6.5 for bigger species. What can people recommend? Got about 2k to spend on gun. Thought about sako, remi 700 etc. Quite like the idea of a thumbhole stock too. Must be wood or laminate. dunganick
cooper, simgle shot but bench rest accuracy. Get them in some interesting rounds, they look the part and can have them made to your design pretty much

Baldrick
If you're not prepared to go down the custom route, why not try an HS Precision rifle?

dodeer
Hi Fister, was going to choose the n/f after a lot of friends recommended it to me. Did wonder myself whether it is to big and over powered for what i want. Will be 95% used for lamping from back of Kubota or pick up and the occasional deer , mostly i will use my Sako 6.5x55 for stalking. Do you reckon i should stick to my usual stalking scopes of S&B 3-12x50 IR Zenith? Toying it all up today might ponder on getting a Remi .22-250 laminate thumbhole heavy barrel for my lamping then buy a Blaser R93 .243 to use for smaller species of deer. The gains of a 22-250 are not really worth the barrel life, if it was me I go with the .243 for all the vermin work and its still the best cal for small Deer species and supremo as a varmint round. Hard to beat a Rem 700 for out the box accuracy but that said the Howas are very good too. Sako are not what they were thanks to Beretta but are still a good rifle, its a shame the Sako is going the same way as the Tikka...cheap and cheerful. You could go the semi custom route and that would give you some serious rifle for the money. You could even rebarrel the T3 and put a nice thumbhole on it. For me it wouldnt be a PES, you want a nice light moddy that still protects the ears and there are others out there that are better. A howa cant touch the sako, tikka or rem. For out of the box consistency. If you have 2k to play with you can pretty much have what ever you want. Dunkield
As Nick says with that sort of budget the world should be your oyster Sam, they may not fit your bill they are more of a classic sporter, but I would include Suaer in my line-up

Mungler
I think you will find that Nick has not just "seen" them but has one and has had no end of grief with his. You would appear to be absolutely correct when you say every forum has one, but I guess you didn't intend the double dose of irony.

dunganick
well for 2k there are better rifles, lets put it that way. Cooper or a custom gun gets my vote. Or a sako with some sort of fancy swaro optics on it.
