Cranfield
Are they truly wild, or "farmed" ? Not a controversial question, just interested.
pigeon master
Cranfield both I'm sure, Lets hope it was one from the vast praires over there. When I was over in Canada a few years ago they had a few in a big field near to camp, when we would come back from the town a little under the influence of ale we used to run the guantlett through the field, there was a few very near misses and I wouldnt advise anyone to try it. Your pants did end up a little worse for wear. PM
the last engineer
to cranfield and PM, they are farmed here a lot more now than ever its just getting the price of the meat down ,good healthy meat ,no cholesteral at all and very little fat , there are a greater number of herds kina/sorta wild ,mainly looked after by the national parks and so on,this particular guys name was "beavis ",his brother "butthead " did have the last laugh,he caught my boss running across the paddock, away from the squeeze ,horn in the upper part of the leg between the cheecks and launched him 15 metres into the fence ,out cold and bleeding from multiple internal wounds, its taken him around 6 months to get over it,still walks with a limp, needless to say "butthead is now on the wall, well the head is anyway,we hung it up this summer in trhe cabin in bucklake . the name of the ranch is "buffarro" hence my boss is an aussie ,who also breeds walabies cute little suckers i'll post some pics as i get them martin

the last engineer
YP, I think the hallway would fit in the head!!! What was it shot with TLE? As in, what calibre - to save some smart *** posting a reply of 'a gun'!!! PP your probably right M P ,i'll find the pics of the one in the cabin (butthead) and post ,has more of the lower jaw and beard showing ,as to the calibre,it was a .30 WSM solid tip,the hollowpoints tend to bounce off,if you ever get too see the skull of a bison/bufallo its approx 2"/3" thick around there. he (the boss) had one killed approx 2 years ago ,for the company BBQ,,the absolute total 110% plank of a butcher ,came in with a 30-06 and 5 rnds of holllow points ,the 1st dropped the bull to his knees for mmmmm 10 secs, 2/3/4/5 felled it for a least a minute more ,so go to plan "b" phone the wife bring me more bullets dearest , after 11 rounds the bull gave up , i cant begin to fathom the pain it was going through ,i would only hope it had lost all consious thoughts ,i told my gov'ner id take care of the next one with the .50"cal D.E. the rounds retreived from the skull had turned into washers of approx 1-1/2" across and the skull smahed to a pulp, hence the work is now done by a proffesional slaughterman. martin
the last engineer
thought you all might like to see the ranch and the surounding land ,take a look at this link ,its the site for the ranch . http://www.bisondirect.com click buffaroo ranch and go to the gallerys , i think the gallery of the wallabys is good ,the one of the wallaby family though is now one shy ,the fella on the left is dead ,having been attaced by an eagle inside the compound . in the bison gallery Beavis in all his glory ,big sucker eh :( ,its hard to imagine the size of these creatures. martin

the last engineer
YP, yes its red ,the taste ?? not to sure how to explain it ,here goes . it cooks very fast (no fat to speak of ) a very low heat req' to cook through ,me i like it rare to med ,so as not to dry out ,i had a large steak that i fast fryed and seared almost 1/4" all round so the meat inside was rare , it was the cats *** :( ,the one thing to watch DONT OVER COOK IT'LL DRY OUT FAST you dont want jerky , to me it almost taste's a little sweet, better than beef any day . try some YP i think you'l like it,dont know the price back home now but it used to be expensive at one time, martin
