HARRIS
I have just got an Air Arms s400 and I really love it. But I really want to use it for hunting. I have got experience in hunting but I only know a few people that have land nd hunt and they arent really reliable sources and i was just wondering about if i did ask a local farmer how to go about it politely. Being only 14 its quite hard for me

I am thinking about joining a club but i dnt really jump at the idea of shooting paper targets because thts all me and my freind have done since getting air guns. Ferret Master
You could join the BASC as a Young Shot. It costs £20 I think and not only will you be insured but you will get the oppurtunity to attend Young Shot's days which are good fun! HARRIS
Oh ok tht sounds gd i was a bit worried for a minute thinking i was not going to get any where. Where do these young shot days take place and do you have to renew your licencse every year?
Cranfield
Membership of the BASC is an annual subscription and the full details are here http://www.basc.org.uk/ . You could also offer to do any odd jobs around the Farm, in exchange for some vermin shooting. Farmers tend to respond to "self help" approaches. It might help if your father, or an older relative accompanied you when you went to see the farmer, but you do all the talking.
HARRIS
ok tht does sound like a good idea because i do like doing practical work aswell. If i did go to see a farmer what would i need to say? And another question what does the insurance cover(why do i need it). And what do u do with the dead quarry/vermin? bob300w
See if you can get on a local shoot as a beater, you will meet many people who can help you, and enjoy the beating!
HARRIS
How would i go about gettin on a shoot thn? Because im not exactly part of the hunting community but not absolutely new to it
bob300w
Just ask around, your local game dealer will know where the shoots are, as will your local gunshop, the police will probably know also. Any clayground will have gameshooters attending, it's a matter of getting about and asking.

markbivvy
you might need to read this bit then. UNDER 18 YEARS OLD :- It is illegal to carry an airgun or airgun ammunition in a public place, even if it is in a secure cover. It is an offence to possess an airgun or an imitation firearm in a public place without lawful authority or reasonable excuse. It is an offence for an unsupervised person aged between 14 and 18 to fire airgun pellets beyond the boundaries of private land on which they have permission to shoot. you need a mate /relation over 18 to accompany you. Cranfield
If you are transported to the Farm and do not carry your airgun in a public place, then you are OK. Once on the Farm make sure that your pellets do not leave the Farm boundary. When you go to see the Farmer, dress smartly (leave the hoodie at home), look respectable, be polite. Just say something like, " Good morning, my name is ***** ****** I live at ********. I own an air rifle and am a member of the BASC and would like permission to shoot your rabbits, or any other vermin I can help you get rid of. I am a safe shot and covered by BASC insurance and I am happy to do odd jobs in return for permission." Be ready to explain how you will get to and fro the Farm and any other questions. If the Farmer says "No", then smile and thank him politely. (I have been called back at this point and been given permission.)
HaveToShoot
I got some cards made up for gaining pigeon shooting with my shotgun. I have been taking out my 11 yr old son with his air rifle and also ordered him a set. Maybe for your birthday or Christmas you could ask for some? You can customize them and put on them that you are a member of BASC, willing to do odd jobs, your contact details etc. I have been taking my boy out and have more shooting for him than you can shake a stick at. In my opinion the cards let the farmer know that you are serious and wont muck about on his land. It may set you apart from the rest Heres the link Shooting Cards Website Good luck and safe shooting
Highlander
14 years old and wants to go shooting...get yourself a mentor, someone older and wiser (not your mates) who knows the ropes and then learn to walk before you run.
