MM
Looks good, what type of stairs did you use? webber was going to just buy a pul down metal ladder, but then saw the "foling stairs" they had in B&Q. quite a good price at £140, and only took a few hours to fit. they i built the banister around that, as i was worried about someone falling down. Mungler
<coughs> building regs <coughs> Interestingly, we were required to get mains power smoke detectors, instal a fire check lobby at the top of the stairs, instal fire doors in the loft and for the first floor, all sorts of garbage with the windows and escape routes etc.
MJN
For loft ladders I went for these, absolutely brill http://www.telesteps.com/ccms.asp?pageID=1...D=156&mnr=
MC
Thats just what I was wondering, how did you get away with the headroom at the top of those stairs? Nice neat job though, you must have a very short building inspector

lord_seagrave
Good job MM, fight the tide of 'stuff' while you can! As for building inspectors, well your loft is the ideal place to store your pool balls and odd socks... "Come on up, take a look..." I don't live in my loft :-) Nobody said you did, I was saying that you cannot use something like that to access a habitable room. Which surely is the whole point to a loft conversion. Why go to all that aggro just to store ****? you can do that without adding walls and ceilings etc.

Dunkield
You can call it a room, but you can't call it a bedroom unless it conforms which means all manner of hoops you just don't want to jump through. Lets get back to loft pictures, I will bore you with my staricase build if I can only find the pictures. . .

tulkyuk
Very nice boys - i ******* hate designing loft conversions ( actual design aint to bad, it's the dame survey in all that **** and spiders that does my head in. oh and by the way, you can't call it any type of room ( not just a bedroom) if you come to sell the house - otherwise you will have to inform building regs and apply thier rules and regulations

charadam
This looks like an atrocious lashup! If you need another loft to practice on, mine's available. Breakfast, Hobnobs, that triple thickness quilted bogroll, use of wife & daughter, all negotiable.
