Tiff-TRG
I think a bit of detective work is needed on this one..... Its a friends blackpowder, Damascus barrel, hammer fire, NE, side by side 12 bore shotgun. He knows it's over 50 years old, but that's about all. Any help/ideas greatly appreciated. http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture033.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture043.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture037.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture024.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture029.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture031.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture034.jpg http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture036.jpg Cheers Tiff

Highlander
mmm Belgium make maybe and possibly Stubbs Twist not Damascus barrels. Is it in proof?
Tiff-TRG
Yes its in proof, but would probably need re-sleaving due to some pitting just after the chambers. Hasn't been fired in 40+ years!
Zapp
Aside from the barrels and some of the engraving, that is identical to a Birmingham trade hammergun by W J Davis I bought from Wabbitbosher not long ago. As such it could be one of the tens of thousands of hammerguns made all over the shop to the same pattern, but under different names. Give Wabbitbosher a shout, he knows his hammerguns. GBS
Well, by the looks of things it is was proofed in Birmingham, the 12C in a diamond dates it to between 1925 and 1954 (thanks Bob) but I would suspect that it is towards the earlier of these two dates. Can someone tell me: is it possible to have a Belgian gun proofed in Birmingham (or London for that matter) or did they have to pass proof before they were exported? You need Bob to tell you more........ gb
Graham M
Made out of old horseshoe nails. A Belgium gun would have the Liege proof mark on it. Nice old gun. G.M.

Tiff-TRG
It's proberly made by the Midland Gun co. Birmingham & London and the name it stamped into the rib. Thanks for all the help so far. As for the name, this photo shows a space on the rib where I guess a name should be, but as you can see its blank...Any more ideas? http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa207/T.../Picture043.jpg
Graham M
Looks similar to an old Chas Osbourne “Back-action†I once owned. G.M.
deer stalker
Mine does not have that pattering on the rib but the name is about where that gap in the pattering is.
