Paul in North Lincs.
They're still holding up in the local woodlands in my area mate. However, I did spot a good sized flock feeding on the remainants of wheat stubble the other day, but as is usually the case, we didnt have the permission to shoot that particular field! Fisherman Mike
I saw a big flock on Saturday just feeding on setaside which has clover growing between the old stubble. It hasnt been seeded just grows naturally. Before being ploughed up 2 years ago it was pasture. I decoyed the field on Sunday Morning and shot 22 birds and a couple of crows. There is plenty of rape bordering this field but the birds are just not interested in it at the moment. Several of the Farmers on the land I shoot have noticed the pigeons flocking up at the roosts but have not had to get the gas guns out yet, most of them do not generally until late Jan/Feb time when the weather hopefully will get really cold. M ROBSON
Started seeing big flocks on some of our stubbles now but there's no pattern to them. One of our farmers drilled five of his fields with Barley last week!!!! Subsidies gone mad! There's no birds on them though. Not hitting the Rape yet either, just the geese and swans on that at the moment.
stirky
Been out today, only becaus it was a nice day and i had the time to get out. when i got to the farm (about 11.30) i noticed loads of pigeons sat about in the sitty trees but not going anywhere and not doing anything but sitting and ********. I set up under a good sitty tree and put 4 deeks up in the tree, 10 shells out in front on the rape and waited and waited and waited a bit more, but the birds sat it out all afternoon. They started to move about 2ish but not anywhere me, finished the day with 4 pigeons and 2 crows, but that was down to being under a good tree rather than the birds coming to the deeks. On the way home i saw loads of pigeons feeding heavily on hawthorn berrys, about 12-15 birds per tree.

Jon-Boy
Dont know if im just lucky but where i shoot rabbits over an apple orchard there are plenty of flights of pigeon that fly over very regular. No rape nearby! Makes for good sport along with the rabbits. Shot one whilst out lamping last night, it flew out of a tree in front of us, my mate followed it like a search light on a WW2 bomber, i raised my anti aircraft gun, got her in my sights.... BANG BANG down she came in flames!!!!
pavman
was out sat 4th, set out 20 decoys in a horse shoe pattern in a corner of huge rape field, lots of birds about but all high crossers, not a bird came into the pattern dispite changes, lack of wind may have been part of the prob to keep the birds moving about. Only took 4 birds in 3 hrs and all stuffed full of the green stuff, location for set up was limited due to pheasent shooting rights (not mine) near by. scaffman73
Well now, my husband being the computer phobe he is asked me to find this site coz to be quite honest he's miffed. Those damn ellusive pigeons! He just wanted to see whether anyone else had seen them feeding on rape or just playing peek a boo in the trees .... so I manage to find u guys.... and I have to say, you had me laughing my *** off. There is a lot of untapped potential out there. You guys should give up ur day jobs and take up comedy. I think it's just the way you write it how it is. Anyway, just had to comment and say thanks for making me laugh. Regards, the_scaffman's_wife_who_incidentally_happens_to_be_vegetarian_yet_still_retains_her_humou _about_killing_those_pesky_pigeons.
