Imperfection
Im sitting here watching 'Hot fuzz' on Sky and it just struck me.Why do all the Police forces round the world use pump action shotguns??? Are they cheaper to produce or more reliable than autos or some other reason???
steve_b_wales
Probably because they are more reliable than semi-auto's. Even compared to the great semi's like Benelli and Beretta.
Mungler
Reliable. Provided you pump it like you mean it (oooerr) no matter what state it's in it will cycle and fire.

neil smith
Most government agencies & military forces use pumps because of budget constraints, they are cheaper than auto's & are more reliable when subjected to dirty conditions & when special rounds like gas shells are needed because they do not have the power to cycle a semi reliably so they use a pump instead. dogfox
you know they are the safest type of shotgun available, if you make sure theres nothing in the breech, and your 3 shots are in the magazine, nothing can go wrong without you realeasing the catch and pumping it, very hard to do by accident
V8landy
Are they a good choice for rough shooting?
Mungler
I reckon so.
Bleeh
I'd say so, they are a nice single barrel, hold three shots, and you can fill them up with mud and water, and they'll still work. You don't have to worry too much when crawling under blackthorn, or taking rest on a rotten bail. Also, cocking the dam things are stupidly fun. And, as always, If anyone is intrested in a Nice pump, I've got one going for £130 around the norwich area!
dogfox
i dont know about the mud bit, you wouldnt want mud in the barrell of any gun! but in generall theyll work in any condition! thats why they use em in iraq

steve_b_wales
I've got a Benelli SuperNova Pump action on a Section 1. It holds 6 shots or 7 if I use 2.5 inch cartridges. A brilliant gun in my opinion.
