apbuild
Heard that this morning a man of Arab/Middle eastern origin has run amok with a knife in the Tottenham area of North London. Apparently, he stopped his car several times and randomly stabbed people in the vicinity. One man of 40 yrs old has died of his wounds and five others are injured. One man arrested. The fact that this man has been killed and the others wounded in this manner, two days before Christmas, really gives me a sickly feeling in the pit of my stomach! My deepest sympathies go out to the deceased man's family and friends at this, a time to be enjoyed. Also to the wounded, Christmas has been wrecked by an obviously deranged individual. Perhaps the government should give a little more effort to helping people who need helping and stop trying to gather favour for the upcoming election with their ludicrous other policies (you all know what I mean). Hope you all have a good, safe and joyous Christmas with your loved ones! Rob.
Cranfield
This is obviously a tragic incident and there have been a few lately involving knives. I expect there will be some serious legislation regarding the ownership of knives, in the New Year.
fishandshoot
Well said Rob, Xmas is about being with the family and enjoying time together NOT shopping shopping shopping and fighting over religous beliefs. This world is really becoming a crazy place.....My deepest sympathy to all those poor souls who have lost loved ones through acts of crazed and utter madness. MERRY CHRISTMAS..........AND A PEACEFUL NEW YEAR.
webber
Cranfield I agree that legislation will probably be forthcoming with regard to knifes. Sadly I fear that any such legislation will be just as effective as the firearms legislation, which lawful shooters endure, and criminals disregard. webber
Devilishdave
I dont think it is safe to focus on the fact that the guy was of middle eastern orogin! The fact is he was mentaly unstable. as for the knife statisticly it was probably a house hold blade but what do they intend on doing banning all knives you wont be able to chop tour veg if they get their way. Will they ban mettal because you could bang it flat and put an edge on it. Dont get me wrong I see no reasonable requierment for a civilian to have a doubble edged blade! they are made for one thing and that is stabbing. Fine if people keep them in the house as part of a military memrobilia display but I can think of no excuse to have one in a public place Dave RIP
Cranfield
There is already quite strict laws regarding the ownership and carrying in a public place, of certain types of knives. Stricter penalties are needed to discourage the carrying ( and illegal using) of knives. A shopkeeper was stabbed to death yesterday, by two blokes who stole two bottles of whisky from his shop. Whilst what they did was insane, I doubt that they could be categorised as "mentally ill". Scum is what they are. :o
oddbob
It is tragic, and there are indeed moves to put yet more restrictions on the sale of knives such as hunting and survival knives, even swords are under the spotlight, how often are these used in crime? When you look at the price of such items, you have to wonder if a chava intent on doing harm or commiting murder is going to buy a hunting knife or just get a knife out the kitchen. Devilishdave
The wifes Sabattier Carving Knife is more leathal than anything I can lay my hands on!! They need to get tough and hand out 3 month sentance for having a knife without good reason. with no quibeling like with the drink driving guaranteed a years ban. For instance if you are found in your traping (woman traping that is) in the middle of town with a few drinks in you you would be bang to rights. Infact they should do any one in a public place in posetion of a knife! Dave
Rimfire
Hi Guys, They banned handguns because people kill people with them. They will ban knives because people kill people with them. When will they ban cars? As people have been known to mow down bus stops with them!! These things don't kill people, people kill people. Merry Christmas. Regards Rimfire
oddbob
Rimfire's right, people kill people. Carrying a knife should carry the same sentance as carrying a firearm without good reason does, 5 years minimum! This is a country where you get 4 years for stealing 1.5 million from a big company (with another 7 years if you fail to pay it back) but only a few months if you kill someone whilst driving a car :o America has it right, 3 strikes and you're out. The media makes America out to be a crime ridden place where people are gunned down left, right and center, but the truth sems to be that the UK has more crime.
