dazlindazza
Hi all, Only recently started shooting so opinions welcome... When I got my gun I brought some Lyalvale pigeon special 30gm 6 cartridges and have managed to catch a few pigeon. Anyhow, I am getting low so today went to my gunshop and said that I want some good, all round cartridges that will still catch me a pigeon but would also be suitable for clays as I am thinking about joining my local club. Anyway, I left the shop with 250 28gm 7.5 loads. After getting them home and comparing them to what I have been using, I notice there's quite a bit of difference, and I can also phsically see the difference in whats inside the loads. I have been out for a couple of hours shooting and havn't done very well, so my question is, Have I just had a bad day, or is it the cartridges? I'm hoping it's not the loads as I've got about 220 of them to get through! Cheers Darryl

Zapp
7.5's arent really up to the job. The pellets wont carry enough "thump" at pigeon ranges, and you will find that you are more likely to wound what you are shooting at, which is a big no no. A few guys use them for pigeons but I wouldnt (just my opinion of course). IMHO you want at least 30g of 6.5 or 6. If I were you I'd take them back and trade them in against some heavier loads or go and have a big day on clays, for which 28g 7.5 are perfect. Edward
I use eley firsts 28 7.5 with 1/2 choke in my escort and I can drop em at 30, but I prefer to let them come a lil bit closer 20-25 for a more humane kil
anser2
I would save them for the clays or take them back to the shop and get some 6.5 or 6s for your pigeon shooting. I was given several cases of 7.5 a few years ago and found they were effective only over a very narrow range using open chokes. At less than 25 yards there were so many pellets that birds were full of shot and usless to eat. Beyond 35 yards 7.5 does not have the penertration needed for consistant kills. Yes you will fluke a few hit in the head , but you will send off a lot of wounded birds. I am guessing they were some cheaper clay load. If you shot around you will find some clay loads are in 6s (ie Rio target )and they will do the job fine at a budget price.

Salop Matt
I always use 28gram and use 7.5`s or 8`s for clays and 6`s or 5`s for pigeon and bunny, not very offten i shoot much bigger than pigeon or rabbit !
Gonna Shoot a Wabbit
keep to sensible ranges...30yds and they will be fine. Eldest son shot them for a long time in a single barrel 12 bore and killed consistently with them. Rgds GSAW
